Miranda House is an all-girls college established in 1948. The red-bricked building and green, vibrant surroundings are enough to lure any student towards it. It offers UGC recognized 45 courses under the main 5 streams. Besides, NIRF ranking in 2020, it scored 77.23 out of 100 and hence, secured the No. 1 ranking followed by Lady Shri Ram College and Hindu College. The admissions are solely based upon the student’s merit i.e. the sum of the best 4 subjects in your 12th standard. The admission procedure is quite tiring as you have to be in the queue for a long time, waiting for your turn. But, this is surely worth validating your entrance inside the premises.

I was very sure while appearing for my 12th exams only that I want to get admitted to Miranda House. It was my dream college. After securing 89% in 12th class. I went straightforwardly to North Delhi, to seek the admissions. I have this inclination towards zoology. After waiting for hours and hours standing in the queue in the zoology department, finally, my turn came. The average of my best 4 subjects was 94%. I got admitted to B.Sc (Honors) Zoology course. The subject is for students who are interested in the study of physiology and anatomy of a varied number of animals around us. This course opens a lot more career opportunities for you. For example, M.Sc Zoology, PhD.

There are around 9-10 faculty for the Zoology course. There are over 200 faculty in the college. The professors are experts in their subjects with all the required qualifications like PhD and UGC NET cleared. They teach very well in the class. The Zoology department is a small department that has this advantage over other departments. Your professors know you by your names. They focus mainly on building the foundation. The laboratory classes are par excellence. Teachers motivate you to feel animals while studying their anatomy or physiology. They guide you at each step while performing experiments. Not only academics, even for personal talks they are readily available in their respective rooms.

The B.Sc (Hons.) isn’t a minimal degree in itself. Students have to proceed to acquire other higher degrees like M.Sc. and PhD hence; there were no students in my class that got placed in any companies. But, the placement cell in general is very active throughout the course duration. In the last year, it managed to get a good number of companies to the college. Some seniors in my department opted for Oracle, Akaash Coaching Institute, or other MNCs. There were proper tests conducted for the same. After the results, the interview process decided their admission to these companies. So, it is up to you that whether you want to go for MNCs or pursue your particular field.

I was staying in the hostel. The best part is it is just 2-3 min behind the college. It was an all-girls hostel. The red-bricked hostel has 2 floors. The top floor is meant specifically for the freshers. Initially, the room is provided to you by the warden. But, later you can opt for any room and that too with any person of your liking. The rooms are fully furnished with beds, a study table, chair, mirror, dressing table, cupboard, extra storage space. The new building is far better than the older one. But, frankly, there is no comparison of the old building. The food provided in the mess is super tasty. It has a variety of cuisines fixed for different days of the week. Although, the night meal is simply plain. The first-year installment for a hostel is Rs. 32000, re-admission is Rs. 27000, and the second installment is Rs. 26000 with an additional Rs. 5000 as the security deposit, it is refundable.

The 15 Acres of vast campus with a mesmerizing red-bricked nest is certainly a delight to student’s eyes. Each subject has its particular department. The laboratory for Zoology is big and well-acquainted with all the facilities. For example, specimens, microscopes, machines, etc. There is a separate library in the department as well. But, the giant library is the heart of the college. You get a membership card on admission to get books issued in your name. The massive auditorium is the soul of the college. There is a food canteen and a Nescafe as well. There is a gym for girls and a medical facility available in the college as well.

Overall, life at Miranda House is an awesome experience in itself. There are several clubs in the college. For example, debate club, consumer club, placement cell, theaters, dance club, etc. You can take part in these for your holistic developments. Especially, the fests are the mini Diwali celebration here. Students from different colleges come to participate in different activities happening. There is a dance competition, fair, quiz competition to name a few. Then on the final day, there is a live performance by some well-known celebrities. For hostellers, there are separate festivals as well. Among them, a few are hostel nights, dandiya nights, and guest nights. There is fun, food, and dance all around. Hence, the college aims at holistic development of a student.
