Hindu College B.Sc Review By Rajesh Kumar

Hindu College was established in 1899. Initially, it was affiliated under Punjab University but now it is a constituent college under Delhi University, further, situated in New Delhi. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses for science, commerce, and humanities. In 2020, the college was successfully ranked 3rd by the NIRF, under the ministry of HRD. Also, the college got the star college tag for the top-notch biotechnology department by the ministry of science and technology. Hindu College admission procedure is solely based on the merit ranking. Further, the merit is calculated with the aggregation of a combination of the best 4 subjects in class 12th along with a set percentage for class 10th marks. Finally, the meritorious candidates are called for counseling and other related admission procedures on a fixed date in the college premises.

I was enthralled to get admitted to this college and as I incline towards botany, hence I opted for B.Sc honors botany. The eligibility for joining this course was 12th pass with physics, chemistry, and biology as main subjects. No, there isn't any entrance exam for the same. The admission is solely through merit which is prepared with a set of 12th class and 10th class marks respectively. Yes, the course subjects were as per my expectations. Even way more interesting and naïve than expected. This included Ecology, Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology, Cellular and Molecular Cytogenetics, Phycology, Applied Microbiology, and several other subjects. Yes, this course opens doors to several job opportunities after seeking a master's degree and so on.

The total faculty for the botany department were 6 professors. They were highly educated with M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees respectively. Along with it, they had huge expertise in the field of teaching. The teachers were very cooperative both in academics as well as co-curricular assistance. Their teaching style is very interesting as the usage of multimedia is encouraged for a better learning experience by the students. Also, from time to time several types of research are conducted under their guidance. The undergraduate students were also provided with abundant opportunities to participate in the workshops and research projects.

Hindu College placement cell was very active all around the year. At the end of the course, successfully managed to get the top-notch hiring companies to our college. Google, Deloitte, HDFC, KPMG, Maruti, Jaypee, and several others are some of the highest recruiters for my college. In my batch, every student was interested in pursuing higher studies in the same field that is M.Sc honors. Thus, none appeared for the placement company’s examination or general recruitment procedure. Although, several other students from other departments like mathematics, commerce, and chemistry got placed and paid handsomely. But, as such from my batch, none appeared for the recruitment procedures to get placed.

Yes, there is a hostel facility for the students coming from other states. As I am a resident of Punjab, I applied for the hostel. Though it is hard to get admitted to the hostel. As there is a fixed number of seats, which is further allotted depending upon merit and reservation. Yes, there is a hostel facility for girls as well as boys. Hindu College hostels are well-equipped with all the necessities. There is a daily cleanout facility for rooms. The rooms are shared by two students. The mess food is good and there is a variety in the day to day menu. Also, the security system for the hostels is optimum. There are guards on the main door, who is present all day long. Further, access to only students with a valid identity card is granted.

Hindu College Campus is situated in a very vast area of 25 acres. There is every facility in the college. Ranging from the auditorium, sports ground, library, laboratories, to canteen. The classrooms are big, fully ventilated with the facility of modern teaching-learning aids namely projectors and several others. The botany lab was equipped with microscopes and several latest tools and machines to conveniently perform different experiments. Also, there was lab assistance available throughout the day for our support. Yes, there is a medical facility provided to the students in the college. Even the basic first aid measures were present in every single department. Thus, overall the infrastructure of this college is satisfactory.

Well, as per my experience, those 3 years of my graduation days at Hindu College DU were the best ones till now. Everything from infrastructure, faculty, to the library, was the best. There were several clubs in the college like debate, dramatics, consumer, dance, and others. Thus, in addition to the best-in-class learning opportunities, co-curricular activities were occurring regularly to ensure the holistic development of students. Finally, the fests and celebrations were the best part of this college. During the fest, there were visits of some well-known celebrities at the college. Additionally, students of other colleges visited our college during fests. Thus this was a great way to rejoice and enjoy college life to the fullest.
