NMIT was one of the colleges I started looking for UG and luckily my rank was around the mark which was sufficient to get admission in NMIT. Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology was a love affair hard to forget and mostly because of the glam quotient that it brought with it. Education was not the only basis of becoming the apple of the eyes of the faculty. They supported and encouraged us for joining clubs and participate in the cultural fests. The placement has been criticized but not that bad but can be called average. One of the concerns is the location of the college as it’s a little far at least from where I stayed. Yes, I passed through many landscapes to reach the college but all that looks good for 1 semester, and post that it becomes a pain. Bangalore students are not allowed to stay at the hostel and for a day scholars coming for extra classes or participating in the events became too hectic. One of the other problems is that parking at the college is paid and if by mistake you park your vehicle outside the college, the college itself informs the cops who come and tow your vehicle away. This is just one of the fines as the college is Singapore where you have to pay a fine for almost all damn things.

I know many negative reviews surface about the college but the CS department is good. The students have to submit the project on time and also the attendance has to be over 70% otherwise pay the price in the form of a fine. For every wrongdoing, if you deep pockets you can survive but if you don’t have that you will pay the price in other forms. This is why studies of some students also got hampered and one can’t live a hassle-free life at NMIT.

One thing is certain that faculty members knew how to teach. Not just the core faculty but even the supporting faculty also was fantastic. All the faculty members were extremely experienced, highly educated, and most importantly supportive and cooperative. Not exactly spoon feeding but important questions and notes are given to the students to make their life easy. If demanded they also put up after the college hours at the canteen and extra classes are organized to solve the questions of the respective subjects. The faculty part hardly has any loopholes but yes the life at NMIT is a little hectic, which is indeed a part and parcel of an engineering student life.

Some good IT companies are there to make sure that the students with good CGPA’s don’t find it difficult at all to get campus placements. NMIT placements were comparatively low if I compare that to other engineering colleges in Bangalore. Many students even with good grades avoided the placements because they were quite poor. No proper guidance was provided as the fest was a week later after the placement program. Neha Kakkar was about to perform and the college department was busy with that. If you maintain grades you can find yourself a job worth 25-30k in Bangalore itself through a campus placement drive.

There are boys and girls hostel facilities. Both the hostels are outside the campus and even the hostelites were not spared from traveling. The college may want to prove a point that one has to work really hard to get to this college. Anyway, I have just seen the hostel buildings and they look alright to me. Also, they were fully occupied means students love settling there.

The infrastructure is the greatest of them all. It’s big and beautiful with nature being taken care of as over 10 gardeners are working to make sure that the greenery of the University is not hampered. The library was spacious and it was enhanced with an E-learning facility. One can get as many prints in the library as there is a Xerox center in the library. From the library let’s move to labs and even they were huge. The computer lab was one of the biggest I would ever see. There were over 1000 pcs and all password-protected so that the college can know who all have logged in and what all activities they did. Most of the sites were banned but since we were engineers, we figured out ways to open sites that were banned. The main building has a green room, girls' common room, and recreation room for both the sexes. The sports ground was superb and outfield as quick as anything. I loved playing cricket there on the turf which was prepared by the experts. The canteen took care of our cravings as there were a lot of options to choose from.

Anaadyanta, the cultural fest of the college is one of the most glamorous events of the college. Many Bollywood singers come and perform on the closing night of the fest and on the 1st 2 days veterans of the Kannada film industry are called to judge the fashion show and dance competition which is held between many groups of the college. My final verdict about NMIT is that if you want to enjoy your graduation life, you should join this. If you are too serious about your studies and need placement upfront after graduation then please stay away.
