Hindu College B.Com Review By Ashish Kaushik

The College environment makes the biggest impact on students' learning. There we went, as the atmosphere of the Hindu College was always energetic and joyful. The College is full of activities, and every student who studies here can find their area of interest in the College. The cut-off of the College also proves that it is one of the best. As the DU has decided, the College doesn't even entertain students from quotas. Yes, there were a few students from sports and army quota, but no entries without merit. All the student issues and cultural events were discussed or addressed at the Hindu College Parliament. It was a mini parliament as many students have started their political journey through this parliament. Former Cabinet Minister ‘Dr Subramaniam Swamy’ is an alumnus of the Hindu College.

I would beg to differ from the fact that the Hindu College doesn't have the best academics at DU. Even the top Colleges of DU don't demand attendance, but it is compulsory at the Hindu College. Otherwise, you might have to beg from the management to allow you to appear for your terms. Attendance is one part other than that, students have to do submissions on time or else they might have to face the same consequences. In B.Com. (Hons.) If you have attended lectures at the Hindu College, you should not worry about your studies at all. Everything is covered in class, and even the questions suggested by the faculty are the ones that come in exams.

Again, I would be brave to say that I differ from the fact that the Hindu College professors are not the best. I also firmly believe that they are the best because of knowing the top students with their names and showing no bias or mercy if we haven't attempted well. Faculty can be cruel sometimes, but the larger picture is that only students will benefit from the play that is in place. Our faculties also head the POLSO society of the College. In this society, every common thing that a Hindu College student should learn is covered.

The placement cell department was quite active, and compulsorily every student had to fill out a long form that covered our academics and other activities that we had done till the 1st half of the final year. Some companies came and also signed some students with an average package of 2.5-3 lakhs annual salary. The number of students that were finally placed was not more than 15-20%. B.Com. (Hons.) from the Hindu College holds a value but not enough to get placed on the campus. The similar jobs that were offered on campus can be easily availed off-campus too. Placements in any DU College have a lesser percentage than the Hindu College. Only SRCC is better than the Hindu College in terms of placements, as St. Stephens or Miranda House College hardly provides placements to their students.

There's a huge boys' hostel where movies like Dil Dosti, Band Baaja Baraat etc. are shot. The hostel in which ‘Ranveer Singh’ stays on the movie is the Hindu College's boys' hostel. The hostel is quite old and the rooms are also in poor condition. The students have to clean it themselves as sweepers clean the floors of the hostel to clean the room, either you pay them or you do it yourself. I was never a part of the hostel so don't know much about the hostel life.

The Hindu College campus is big when compared to most Colleges at DU. At the North Campus, all Colleges are right next to each other, so the area surrounding the College is always full of students. The College has separate buildings for each department as the B.Com. and B.Com. (Hons.) classes were organized in different buildings. Most of the buildings are underutilized though. My personal favorite of the campus was the G-Block which is the parliament house of the campus. Trust me on this if you are getting bored, attend the meetings or be a part of the discussions and you will forget all your sorrows. There's an indoor sports stadium with a badminton court, a volleyball court, and a couple of tennis courts. Apart from that, there's also a huge sports ground at the Hindu College campus.

It's the parliament of the Hindu College that decides and plans the Mecca (Annual Fest). Students who wish to participate first have to impress the committee members by performing there, and then they are allowed to take part in the fest. More than the fest, I enjoyed watching the demonstration as more than competitive; it was the funniest audition in a way that I have ever seen in my life.
