New Delhi Institute of Management PGDM Review By Deepa Bhatt

In our days CPA or CFA costed way lesser than what NDIM costed me and also didn’t helped get a job which I loved. My review is for just the finance specialization of college as many think that their IT and Marketing specializations are great. The fees was still way lower than what many other top MBA or PGDM colleges used to charge. IMI, Delhi School of Management, MDI Gurgaon, and IMT ranked higher than NDIM but charged a little extra than what NDIM. The college was already a two-decade old college still it lacked in an important area and that is a strong alumni base. A strong alumni base helps in getting good placements and taking the college rankings above. The problem though was that from our batch barring a couple of students, rest all haven’t done anything great in their life. Many of my batch mates are still in touch are struggling to meet the ends in cities like Mumbai, and Bangalore. An MBA student finding hard to meet his family ends may sound a little harsh but that’s the reality of at least our batch.

Many colleges since then incepted the trimester system while NDIM was happy with semester system. Even after paying 6 lakhs what we got was one of the worst faculties to teach. The management would never listen to our problems. Again, I know many may not believe but some students joined private tuitions as they used to teach much better than them. After spending around 8-10 hours at college those poor fellows used to go for tuitions for a couple of hours to understand what’s there in our PGDM program. Throwing us with PPTs was the way considered for studies. I don’t know whether that is how PGDM course works but at NDIM that was the way.

The poorest portion of my review will for sure be the faculties as they were indeed quite poor. The faculty of valuations during the third semester was busy on giving us PPTs after PPTs. After giving the PPTs on Ratan Rata, L.N. Mittal and others, he would do time pass in class talking all the things but studies in class. These days I say faculty lead the charge when students are taken on industrial tours but in those days or rather at NDIM, the faculty believed that maximum studies happen in classes. So, many subjects and such a vast portion so the professors thought it’s better off completing that than having many workshops or outings.

Banks and some upcoming companies were the ones who entered the campus with a smile on their faces and went smiling because they knew that have got MBA graduates at a price much lesser than they command. The average package in 2014 was 4.5 lakhs and highest around 12 lakhs. All the other good colleges average then was 8 lakhs and NDIM was at half. While most of the MBA colleges used to have 100% placements, NDIM didn’t had over 60% campus placements. The pedigree didn’t worked nor did the style of studies that they infused and that was the reason for average placements.

NDIM hostels were not inside the campus but around 400-500m from the campus. The boys and girls hostel complexes were good as the facilities were not owned by NDIM but they had tied-up with some corporate styled hostels and NDIM has done well in that regard. Hostels had the facilities to take rooms for single or double accommodation. The rooms just used to have beds and rest all facilities were available on monthly rent. The meals I have no idea as I didn’t stay at the hostels and it has been a while since I have left, so no point asking about the meals who stayed there.

NDIM campus was small but it was a green campus that had a lot of fresh air in it. There were student areas and students used to collaborate there after the classes. Talking about the classes, the classrooms were international styled as I never saw such high maintenance classrooms ever before. The best of the lot was the cyber labs or computer labs with over 100 computers in it. The main building or the knowledge block had the canteen and library which were fantastic. The auditorium which was used often was good enough to accommodate around 300 students.

With events NDIM was great and that is why at the start I have mentioned that marketing students may have had fun as they were given the charge of the events. Their task was to get the sponsors and get the vendors alright to prepare the stage for the events. Celebrities and business personalities visits was quite often and therefore I won’t complain about the campus life. So, ideas of March is something for which one has to be aware about because the college and the college life was lucrative but harsh reality is studies and placements here aren’t that great.
