Banaras Hindu University B.Com Review By Sridhar Dwivedi

Now that I have said that BHU is the best university I hope I back it up with my answer. From my experience, I observed a few things about the university which I would like to highlight. I was from commerce department and therefore there was hardly any academic pressure on us. To win the race at BHU, one night study was sufficient. So, BHU Varanasi provides you with many resources and time to do thinks beyond academics and fulfill all your hobbies and interest. However, this is just for arts and commerce faculty because in science faculty, I have seen students working quite hard to clear their semesters. The hostels were great though I never stayed at the hostels but students staying there enjoyed the campus life more than the day scholars. The environment inside the campus is always tidy and the entire university is bigger than most townships is secured through guards, army people and of course the CCTV cameras. Lastly, few things for Banaras as I hail from there and all the outsider students can enjoy the mesmerizing ghats of the city as the peace that you will get just by sitting besides the ghats may not give you anything significant but inner peace for sure. Please excuse me for my English but trust me I have put my best foot forward in writing the review.

B. Com (Hons) course of the university may not be the top course of the university but still if there was any course of the university which had highest numbers of students, it was our course. The attendance was for name’s sake as maximum students bunked the classes and had just 20-30% attendance and were still writing the exams as they were just given warning every single semester. The course was good as one thing for BHU can be praised for life is the quality education that they provide.

Faculties were highly qualified as maximum professors were PhD and those who weren’t were doing their PhD while teaching at the same time. The faculties were easy on students as they cared only for the ones who were regular at the classes. They never threatened or forced the students to come to the class. They were clear that those who want to study can study and those who want to mesmerize the beauty of the city can do that.

I checked few reviews before writing mine and saw that students saying BHU placements are 100%. I seriously want to ask them whether they were forced to write so or they are good at telling lies. From my batch of 2015 hardly, few students got placed and they too became sales man at Bajaj Finance and Policy Bazar types of companies who need man power constantly to sell their products. Apart from that there were a few other companies but there were 11-12 sections of B. Com and each section had 120 students. So, getting placements for each one of them was anyways impossible.

There are numerous hostels at the campus but the hostels were strict. However, if you are lucky enough, you can enter the hostels which otherwise has strict rules that non-hostellers can’t enter the campus. BHU hostel had curfew timings but students were free to roam inside the campus for as long as they wanted to. The hostel charges were quite reasonable and in that small charges facilities like Wi-Fi, mess, and room cleaning was included. Rooms were kept up to date and smoking and drinking was strictly prohibited. Checking was done randomly and if anyone boy is caught breaking the rules, they were rusticated from the hostels.

BHU campus is one of the biggest campuses in India. Among all the facilities that the university had, the university library is worth mentioning. The central library of the campus is the largest libraries of Asia and it also had a computer centre with nearly 200 Pcs. The computer centre also had a reading area and it remained open till 11 pm and students can use the computer as students were free to use the university’s computer centre. The campus has two of the most famous temples of the city in New Vishwanath Temple and Birla Temple. Both the temples were great and since the university gate was opened for all, there was a rickshaw stand where one will get rickshaw at any point in time. Apart from temple there was also a world class hospital inside the campus.

BHU’s campus life is pleasing as the study pressure was not there, we could prepare for other competitive exams at the campus even during our lecture hours. There are tons and tons of activities going on at the campus, so if one is singer, he/she will get at least 10 shots to try and entertain the crowd and see where they stand.
