The college where I did my undergraduate studies is BMS Engineering College, and it is located in Bangalore, Karnataka. My college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. There are a total of 13 undergraduate courses that are offered here. Coming to postgraduate courses, there are 16, which is pretty large compared to most of the other engineering colleges. Many people even come to do their PhD here as many of the departments offer PhD programs in fields like science and management. In terms of students, this college caters to approximately 5000 individuals. This college has the highest grade possible of NAAC accreditation. The college’s affiliation is Visvesvaraya University. I did my bachelors in Civil Engineering. If you are thinking about joining this course, you can go ahead and talk to Professor Prasanna Kumar. He is the HOD of the department and can help answer any of your questions when you are considering obtaining admission into this college.

I did my Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, and I got in through merit entry. The minimum requirements for this are to have passed 12th standard or an equivalent examination, and to have studied English as a language. Also, you need to have at least a score of 45% in the subjects of physics and maths. Some other subjects that the admissions teams look for are computer science and chemistry. Coming to the quality of the classes, the first year was just general classes and weren’t so tough. However, after second year, the classes get into more specialised areas and this definitely needed some more time to understand the concepts and such.

The faculty in my branch of studies have some of the most experienced professors. This is because when BMS first started, one of the branches that it initially opened with is Civil Engineering. There are a total of 41 teachers in the Civil Engineering branch of this college. More than half of them actually have doctorate qualifications. The civil engineering program is autonomous, so our own teachers form the curriculum and take care of the exams. This is helpful because the staff helps us to tailor our studies properly. Most of the staff that have taught me teach us well and help us by providing notes.

If you have any questions, you can talk to Dr. Pradeepa who is the professor that takes care of this. We get an impressive number of companies for placements in our college. In the year I graduated, 258 companies vetted our college for students to hire. In my year, some of the companies that came were PayTM and Dell. I got placed in Dell. The average starting salaries ranged between Rs. 5-6 lakhs per annum.

There are hostel facilities provided for both female and male students. One nice thing is that they are located on campus itself, so it is easy for students to commute to college. On campus, there are a total of four hostels. These include 2 boys’ hostels and 2 girls’ hostels. The occupancy range of the rooms ranges between 1-3 people per room. The hostels include elevators, water heaters, lounge, and television facilities. I stayed in hostel for the first two years and it was a nice experience for me. I got to make a lot of friends because of that experience. The food was also decent, and there are quite a few shops surrounding the campus which you can go out to eat also.

Our campus is spread across huge area, and there are many facilities that are located on campus. These include a multi-floor library, a clinic, a data centre, and a mental wellness centre. One of the things I should describe more about is the mental wellness centre. It is unique in our college, and it is headed by a psychologist. It's located in the postgraduate block on campus, and students are welcome to go here any day throughout the week to discuss anything from academic issues to personal issues. Another facility that really helped me is the data centre. You can go here any time throughout day and have access to internet and printing services. This really came in handy because of all the notes and assignments that we would have to complete and print.

Overall, I would say that this is a really nice college. Apart from academics, it has many extracurricular programs as well. There are many teams including a dance team, photography team, robotics team, and a singing team. The college makes arrangements for its students to go participate all over Karnataka and even other states. I was part of the robotics team, and we got to go to Delhi for a nationwide competition.
