BMS College of Engineering B.Tech Review By Sachin Kumar

BMSCE is a top engineering college in India. The college is 7 decades old and has produced some of the finest engineers. Entrance test is the way to this college and you should have also scored a minimum of 50 percent in PCM, only then you will be eligible. There are various streams in this college and some of them were among the first time that I heard. The college is university in itself and therefore the study varies from the state university and also the teaching system as well. The college has become one of the most sought after one not just in Bangalore but has a pan India fan base. Students from almost all the Indian states can be found here along with some international students as well.

The only way one can survive in this university is by grinding. The classes are long and if they are not enough, we were loaded with so many assignments to complete that we didn’t even had time in weekends as well. I am still trying to find those who said if you crack the entrance means you have become an engineer. The grinding that I had to go through for 4 years was beyond words. The college has adopted an innovative way so that they can keep students engaged. The practical, theory, exams are all divided in a way that we didn’t even realize that we are at the end of the semester. The facilities that are provided related to academics are also awesome and something that has helped college attains the top rankings.

Without the top-notch faculty the college wouldn’t have reached such heights. All thanks to the exceptional faculty in the college. So calm and level-headed is the faculty that you will be in awe of them right from the start. I came across some 40 faculties during the course and all of them were exceptional. The way they used to present the lectures and help students with their doubts was so good to see. The faculty also kept a note of the pointers and the weaker students had to go through knife for that. The faculty was so easy to approach and ignoring them for no reasons will never work wonders for you at BMSCE. Hence, get close to them and grasp as much as you can from them.

IT sector seems like has made BMSCE their first choice and therefore all the big domestic and international IT names, you will find in the campus during placement week. TCS, Infosys, Oracle are among the top recruiters and for Mechanical stream the companies that hired us included the likes of Godrej, General Motors, Kirloskar, and ThyssenKrupp among others. The average package for mechanical engineers was in the range of Rs. 4-6 lakhs. A handful among us also grabbed package over Rs. 10 lakhs. However, they were only a few. Pointers make a lot of difference and therefore scoring well consistently will help you get the better placement opportunity.

There are as many as 8 hostels of the University which include students of all the colleges that come under the University. 4 hostels are reserved for boys while the other 4 for girls. The college buildings too are allotted as per the years you are in. Like you will be staying in a different hostel for the first 2 years and a different hostel for the last 2 years. The rooms of each of the hostel were neat and any form of intoxication was prohibited. However, some students did find a way out.

BMSCE Campus is huge as the college has an area of nearly 15 acres. Along with engineering there are other colleges of the University as well in the same campus. In addition to good academic and admin building the college also took care of student’s health and therefore medical emergency was deployed in the campus. Besides that, the college has a huge playground which is multi-purpose as students are seen playing football, hockey, and cricket in the ground. Also, there is a basketball court and various other indoor sports as well. The labs are airy and spacious, and the best part of the campus was certainly the cafeteria. It did become overcrowded in evening, but we loved waiting for our chances.

As I have said so many times that grinding will be done at the campus. If you are not mentally tough don’t even dare to enter the college. The faculty are sweet but strict as well. The seniors are helpful and supported us with study materials and how to prepare for exams. Thus, juniors and seniors lived with harmony in the campus. There was a policy against any form of molestation or ragging and therefore this was something which I never witnessed during my term. The security at the campus gate is deployed 24*7 and one can’t leave the campus after 9pm in the night. The college was strict, but it was all in the best interest of students.
