BMS College for Women BCA Review By Prathiksha Narayana

I have officially completed my first year of BCA from BMS College for Women (BMSCW) and based on that I will be writing this review. So firstly, let me tell you, this college is a huge yes of you is into sports and NCC. By saying this, I mean, you don't need to worry about the attendance. And the teaching faculty is supportive too, for that matter. And as the name says, it's a women's college.

I am currently pursuing Bachelor of computer applications (BCA). It is a 3-year course. But this college also offers you an honors degree in the 4th year, which is totally optional. Coming to the eligibility criteria - you should have passed your 12th from any board (CBSE, ICSE or state). And you can be from any combination or stream i.e. science, commerce or arts. Who should all get into BCA? You come from a non-science background. But now somehow you want to get into the IT field. You wanted to get into engineering after your 12th grade. But couldn't crack KCET, you can still do engineering level jobs and get paid well by doing BCA and MCA from a decent college. And yes, you won't have to study Physics and Chemistry in this course. So, if you are not good at physics and chemistry, not to worry.

The faculty here is really friendly. They tend to really understand the doubts and queries from the students and clarify them. They don't really have any attitude or anything, especially if they don't know the answer for your any of your doubts, they all are so down to earth that they will accept that they are not much aware in that field, they will learn about it and clarify your doubt. The colleges also have well facilitated labs. Each and every student gets a system to practice on for 8 hours a week with that respective teacher. The teachers are all well experienced. Most of them I know have an experience of at least 13-15 years in teaching field. Some of my teachers have also worked as engineers.

Yes, we have a Placement Cell in our college. It is really helpful not just for students who are looking for placements at the end of the degree. But they also help you get a part time job, while studying, if you are in need of it. We get an average package of 4 LPA every year.

No, this college does not have hostel facilities.

The infrastructure is really good. Well-lit classrooms with good ventilation are provided. Hygiene is maintained not just in washrooms but in the corridors and classrooms as well. There is a canteen where you get decent food. The washrooms are also really good with Western toilets in most of them. And the washrooms are cleaned every day. So, I can tell this that, I have never had experienced a stinky toilet in my college.

Our college doesn't really have a huge campus. It has a ground which is around 1500 sq.m. It has 2 attached buildings - one old one and other the new one. But the infrastructure is equally good. There are events taking place every month in the college. The participation of the students is encouraged. There is also NCC, NSS, scouts and guide and youth red cross association. Sports are something the college supports very much in. They really encourage state, national, international games and they even give a TADA for it, and you don't have to worry about the expenses.
