Narasinha Dutt College B.Sc Review By Aniket Paul

The first thing that attracted me towards this college was its reputation among my peers and relatively small amount of tuition fees. So if anyone else is looking to get admission in a reputable college in Howrah (one of the best actually) without having to pay a huge amount that is required in colleges like Ashutosh, they should definitely give Narasinha Dutt College a chance. The overall experience in my college ID say was better than I expected and it really gave me the opportunities and chance to get out of my comfort zone and develop new skills and make some amazing new friends along the way.

The course that I was enrolled in is B.Sc Physics Honours so it's one of the toughest one out there. The entry requirements are kind of strict but not as much as compared to the other reputable colleges in Kolkata. I'd say it's above average. If you have passed your higher secondary with good marks you can easily get enrolled here and in my case I even had a two years drop still so my marks were reduced by 5% according to the rules and yet I was able to get admission here. My motive for choosing physics was always because I loved it too much. The nature of our reality always fascinated me so I knew taking this subject would help me in understanding it better.

The teachers are one of the prime reasons my college journey is going so smooth. Whenever I face any challenge in my academic journey they're always there to guide and help us in any way possible. Most of them have completed their Ph.D from reputed universities around the globe, one of them even from Germany. The way they teach is simply very easy to understand and we have many practical in our course syllabus so it can be a bit of a challenge to tackle them sometimes but with the help of our amazing teachers were able to run through them with ease, eternally grateful towards them.

This is the only part of my college that is below average or non-existent almost. Since most of the courses offered in this college are traditional there is little to no placement support for students and there is not any Placement Cell available for us at the moment. But it's still not much of a big deal since almost everyone chooses to pursue higher education anyways. All of my batch mates are looking to study masters after they're done with their bachelor's so it can be overlooked.

No, there is no hostel or residential facilities available in this college.

The campus is large enough for all the students to roam freely and we have our own playground inside the college so if anyone wants they can spend their time there with friends. It’s also a very area so there's no shortage of classrooms or toilets for students and teachers to use anytime they want to. There are also places like union room available right in the middle, girl’s common room is also very convenient for girls to sit in, the college restaurant is affordable, and the food quality is average. Overall the infrastructure of the whole college is more than you expect with such a relatively low amount of course fees.

The campus life of our college is very enjoyable although there can really be some much needed improvements like the annual fests being conducted regularly and putting more efforts and thoughts into them. The crowds are quite large whenever it takes place anyways and having our own playground inside the college itself makes it very easy for students to enjoy any kind of sports there. For the same reason annual sports are a regular thing in the college and the participants are large in numbers. Overall the college lives up to its reputation of being one of the best colleges in Howrah to study from.
