Padmanava College of Engineering B.Tech Review By Pragya Kant

Padmanava College of Engineering is situated in the sector 4, Rourkela, Odisha. The college was set up about 20 years back, with the intent to contribute for the wellbeing of technical education in the western part of the state. It is affiliated to BPUT. I entered the college into the Batch of 2011-2015 to opt for Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. I got the college by writing the exam of OJEE. The college management was organized and supportive. I faced no impediments while the admission procedure as well as a fresher too. The management was watchful and even at the hostel our grievances were addressed properly. College used to provide us with the uniforms pertaining to our respective batches. We never faced ragging or any hardships because management used to lend us its ears whenever we faced troubles.

I joined the Electronics & Telecommunication in Padmanava. I joined it through OJEE but one could also join it through AIEEE ranking. College used to fix the criteria about the selection of students in accordance with their rankings in the respective exam. As of now procedure must have changed due to the change in the pattern of Engineering entrance examinations. I met some of the really good teachers of Electronics being at Padmanava. I really don't have idea about the present day condition of the Electronics faculty. But as per my knowledge, presently many Alumni of the college are working for prestigious firms like TCS, Infosys etc.

Some of the faculties were really good. They had theoretical as well as practical knowledge in depth. Some of them were newly passed outs who were acting as assistants. In Electronics we had to deal with almost 48 papers and luckily none of them stood as a roadblock because our teachers were there to help us out. I have no idea about if they are still continuing with the college or not. As of now I doubt if the same quality of teaching is still in the practice or not.

I would not say that the college was doing great with the placements. The reason can somehow be related to the fact that Rourkela was having no airport, which adversely impacted the frequent visits by reputed firms. We had to go for off campus drives. When I was in my final year, none of the giant firms came to the college to seek the fresher. We had to settle for newly incepted start ups.

We had a separate hostel for girls as well as for boys. Girls hostel was within a range of half kilometer from the college's vicinity. A guard, caretaker, warden was available, 24*7. We had to take written permission to go outside. Hostel mess was provided and it was within the premise. The quality of food was below average as most of the hostels offer. We used to pay around 3000rs per month to the hostel. One could pay it yearly too. My hostel was triple floored with 25 rooms on each of them.

The campus did not appear lavish. Classrooms were average. I don't know if the set up has changed in the past five years. The college library was a great help. It used to lend books whenever we needed. Though the building did not appear fanciful but it was equipped with all the basic facilities.

If I sum up my college life experience it helped me to shape my perception as well as my personality. I paid fees below 4lacs for the four years in totality. It never created a burden. College helped students to shape up their personalities by giving platforms like Rotaract Club etc. Several events like elocution, dance, singing, writing, and seminar helped one to overcome fears and channelize the bubbling potential within. College conducted PRATIBHA TECHNICAL SEMINAR on the annual basis which aided young minds with creativity and innovation. I don't know if these are in continuation or not, but I had a good time with these experiences.
