All India Institute of Medical Sciences MBBS Review By Sukanth Biswas

AIIMS Nagpur is one of the best government medical colleges in India. These beautiful campus span over 150 acres of land has all the needs of a budding doctor and state of the art healthcare facilities. The reason of me choosing this college was due to its high demand in the medical field. It took 2 years of rigorous dedication and effort which helped me to get this college. I'm glad I'm an AIIMSonian. I would highly recommend this college to all those future doctors who need the best environment to study, grow and treat patients.

The whole MBBS course is a 4.5 years long with an extra 1 year of compulsory internship in the same institute. To be eligible for this course, one must clear National Eligibility cum Entrance Test with 50 percentile for General category and 40th percentile for OBC, SC, ST categories. The cut off rank for general category was AIR 1187 in the year 2023. During admission, birth certificate, NEET admit card and related documents, caste certificate, class 10 and 12 mark sheet, Aadhar card, Provisional admission letter and few passport sized photographs will be required.

The faculty at AIIMS, Nagpur is well trained and experienced in handling the future doctors of India. Every faculty has a minimum of MBBS and MD degrees. Most of the professors have 10+ years of teaching experience. Classes are conducted for duration of 1 hour for each subject. The teachers use presentations which are displayed to the students through two projectors. A Plasma screen is provided for the teachers to write on it. Every faculty has its own style of teaching. It's made sure that the students grasp the concepts during the class itself. Regular exams are conducted to test the students.

For placements, the MBBS graduates must clear another entrance test, INICET for PG courses in AIIMS and JIPMER, or NEET PG for entrance to PG courses in other medical colleges.

For undergraduates, there are 4 hostels with each hostel having 12 floors (except Sarojini hostel which has 5). In each floor, 10 rooms. For 1st year students, double sharing rooms while from 2nd year onwards, single occupancy rooms for all. Two fire extinguishers are provided at each floor with fire alarm system. A warden is available at all times. Last Entry time is 2:00 am. Cricket ground, basketball court, volleyball court, indoor badminton court and two gyms are provided to hostel residents.

The campus is huge. At the entrance you can find a huge gate for entry guarded by security. There are 3 patient health care blocks - OPD, IPD and an Emergency. The patient inflow is huge with about 5000 patients coming here every day. OPD timings are 9 am to 5 pm for weekdays while on Saturday it is till 1:00 pm, Sunday is holiday. IPD and emergency blocks are open 24 x 7. Ambulance facilities are available. There is a dharmshala right to the OPD. There is a huge medical College and laboratory block behind the OPD where students come. Opposite of the medical College block, paramedical block is situated which offers courses like B.Sc Nursing. There is a guest house for parents to temporarily stay. There are 4 hostels for UG students, 2 for PG students, 1 for PG married, 1 for male nursing, 1 for female nursing, and 5 residential blocks for doctors, nurses and other staff. There are two dining halls, 3 cafeterias in the whole campus. A learning resource complex is provided which contains 2 libraries, 5 reading halls and a cafeteria.

Overall, the campus is amazing with a great environment to grow and learn more. There are several clubs for dance, music, sports, etc. An annual fest called Hallucinate is conducted every year for 5 days duration in which celebrities across India come. To conclude the college has lots to offer and if you use the resources wisely you can become a better human being.
