It stands first in the field of academics, sports and arts in the district and university. The college is built in a lush green 33.5 acres. It caters the need of students who are interested in various fields of arts science and commerce. It stands first in the state for having its own synthetic sports track. College also sends students for sports and other cultural activities. One student took part in international sports meets. Coming to the field of academics, college stands in the front. Many students are university toppers. Another thing which we must keep in mind is the infrastructure that they provide. Sure, anybody who takes admission will not be disappointed. It is not doubtful why our college has been considered as a college with heritage status.

College has more than 10 BA courses in English, Malayalam, Hindi, and Sanskrit, Arabic and Islamic history, Urdu, History, Economics, Philosophy and Political science. It provides B.Sc Courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, and Statistics. B.Com and BBA courses are also available. The college is affiliated to Kanuri University. For UG courses the eligibility is Class 12 or equivalent with relevant subjects. For post graduation it is a valid degree or equivalent in the concerned subjects. For my course in M.Sc Chemistry, the eligibility requirement is a Bachelors degree in Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry. Bachelor’s courses like B.Sc. Industrial chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Applied Chemistry are also considered if they produce a valid equivalency certificate. The general cutoff for this course is 90% for general category. Category-wise relaxations are also given. My motive to study M.Sc was to get an admission for PhD. I am also excited to get jobs in the field of industries and quality checks control. M.Sc. Chemistry course also enables to get placed in pharmaceutical companies and also as Scientific assistant in various PSC examinations.

The faculty members are well educated. Many of them have Ph.D in respective subjects. Out of the nine faculty members five of them are Ph.D holders and out of the rest four, two are current pursuing their Ph.D. Some of the faculties qualified their Ph.D from reputed institutes like IIT and IISER. The teaching methodology is so good and precise. Classes are conducted in an orderly manner. The teachers appear regularly. Many of them aid the teaching in ICT enabled mode. Unlike other colleges where mugging up concepts is valued, here they do not emphasize on mugging up the concepts and theories. All are asked to refer and study from foreign and renowned Indian authored books. In short the classes at Govt Brennen college are up to the mark.

The College doesn’t provide any placements. However many students find their own job after graduation and post graduation. Many students are now working in various MNCs abroad and in India. Many students are now pursuing PhD also.

The college has two hostels, one for men and the other for women. A new ladies hostel is built this year which can accommodate 338 students in total. The means hostel can accommodate 60 students. The old ladies hostel which was functional can also hold 96 students. Students are only admitted on proper scrutiny in code of conduct. The college hostel has full day water supply and supplies meals and lunch daily. Food is of medium quality. College hostel students are given freedom for expressing their talents during their hostel days. Infrastructure is very proper and both the hostels are new and are strictly maintained.

The campus is build in approximately 33.5 acres of land with serene and pristine natural environment, the campus houses various academic departments, administrative offices, central library, students hostels, staff quarters, playground and other necessary units to provide basic amenities for staff and students. The academic blocks are built in such a way that it does not disturb the natural environment of campus, as it is evident from the impressive presence of Shanthivanam, a conserved forest patch, which is perhaps the only one of its kind in any campus in Kerala. The academic building in the college is well structured. The 5 blocks in the college, viz. Chemistry, Physics, Administrative block, Humanities and Sanskrit is still preserving the cultural prestige foundations. Regarding the view to ensure the proper physical fitness of students, two gymnasiums are set in the college. Under the right guidance of department of physical education, the students are granted permission to make use of the facilities actually free. It is also a proud fact that Brennen college is one and only college in the state with a synthetic track of its own. ORICE studio the next highlight of the college, equipped with latest communication gadgets provides learners the opportunities to attend academic or training sessions of experts in different field offered in virtual mode by Directorate of collegiate education. Another amenity available in the college is the computer labs. Computer labs are attached to the depth of statistics; mathematics and the central library are fully equipped to provide learners with hands-on experience on latest software tools in respective fields of study. Digital browsing centers within the campus provide internet facilities to students. Besides, there is a common computer lab that provides digital services to students at the small rate.

Campus life is actually very fresh and happy. College life is very enjoyable. Students always conduct programmers and flashmobs. The college union is responsible for the programs conducted in the college. They conduct programmers during Onam, Christmas and Holi. Students are very engaging and are supportive for all the programs that are conducted here. One of the most fascinating programmed conducted here is a two days arts fest (Kalolsavam). Other colorful programmers in this college are College day, Arts day and Union day. Many clubs viz. Nature club, Tourism club, film club, book club, entrepreneurship development club, legal literacy cell and language clinic are all functional. In short college life quite interesting and enjoyable.
