I will keep my review neutral because everyone is confined to their opinion and me being little realistic may touch upon some hard points as well as the goods that the university has to offer. Starting with the academics, it was average as the faculty here will do the same old formality of teaching. They don't do it by heart and this is where I felt some numbers to be cut upon. In academics, the biggest advantage is the kind of labs that are there in Uttaranchal Institute of Technology Dehradun. You will find every software in the machine to test the theory classes. Placements were decent as nice small, and large company’s groups were invited, and most of the students walked happily with a degree as well as a nice package in hand. One more plus would be the campus size of UIT Dehradun. It's humongous and the playgrounds here were as amazing as anything. The university atmosphere in and around is cool as the university is on the way to Mussoorie. I left the college with a bag packed with many memories.
The classrooms were amazing and with teaching methods and equipment's changing over the course of the time, the university has incorporated them all. The labs play a vital role in engineering studies and they were simply outstanding here. The university has roped some of the smartest brains in developing the labs here. No question about it for sure. Moving on, the atmosphere of the university is such that students were more or less serious about studies and that positive energy remained in every corner of the college. It sticked with all and students always were on their toes to finish the assignments and catch up with what's taught in the classes.
Poor or being a little less harsh, I would say average. The reason is that they never took students seriously and were more intent in finishing the syllabus and submitting the reports to the dean that they have done their job and its students turn to cut out the task. They never took the responsibility of the weak students in studies or if some doubts were left. Once their job is done, they will run through and find their peace in the staff rooms where students were not allowed. The story never changed, even after some new faculty that were roped in.
The university has done tremendously well in this regard. The onus is always on placement and the college has addressed that with authority. From some medium enterprises like KPIT Technology, Tera Software, and Infosys, among others. UIT Dehradun placement cell did a fantastic job as students who were willing to take job were given the priority while students with the ambition of higher studies were asked to take a back seat. The placements were in the range of 4-5 lakhs and that too in IT cities like Chennai and Bangalore. The core companies for the IT department were cheered by students on the whole. The college should be given an extra mark for the way it handled the placements.
UIT has students from all across the country, and to make sure they have a sound and peaceful living facilities, the college has 3 boys and 2 girls hostels with seating capacity ranging from single-seater to 4 seaters. The hostel had many facilities like a proper dining area, laundry facility, and a guest house. The food provided at the hostel was magnificent as for many, Aloo Puri may not seem like breakfast, but for people from the state, this is their staple breakfast.
UIT Dehradun Campus is big and is spread over 20 acres. Similar white and red buildings make the campus look cool. There are over 12 buildings, excluding the hostel buildings and all graceful. The colleges are divided in streams but enjoy common facilities like canteens, mess, library and the Swami Vivekanand Auditorium. The campus has 2 gardens with comfortable seating facilities. A Nescafe joint has been started just besides the law college building. Not just coffees but the coffee shop also serves sandwiches and muffins as well. There's also a proper restaurant inside the campus that serves a multi cuisine menu. The campus also has a proper food court that caters to both students and staff. The place buzzes with laughter and life in the evening. There's a gift, and tuck shop within the campus. The campus also has an ATM branch of the Bank of India that is operational 24*7.
Wearing a uniform in college seems so childish. I used to wait for events and Saturdays as we were free to wear civil uniforms on those days. The dress code has to be maintained on those days, and that was really nasty. No choice, though as we couldn't do anything about that. The college hosts a series of events throughout the year, and because there are 6 other colleges on the campus, all had their personal events. The students had an invitation from all the fests, and I enjoyed the events as I have served as an extra in many other institutes' events.
