Indian Maritime University B.Tech Review By Ankit Kumar Tiwari

I was always inclined towards joining the Indian Navy and hence I found Indian Maritime University Visakhapatnam very useful for my future decisions. Therefore, I sat for the IMU CET examination in June. After the declaration of results, I was eligible to be admitted to IMU and affiliated colleges, after going through counseling rounds I got IMU Vizag as my college, after the payment of confirmation fees I went to the college for document verification. After document verification, I got my admission confirmation receipt. Faculties told us to go through the mess food and also talk to the warden regarding hostel arrangements and the items required after getting into a hostel.

Here academics are very helpful. Here faculties are having Ph.D degrees and each one of them is expert in their field. We can ask doubt related to subjects with the respective faculties of the subject. We have a total of 8 semester throughout 4 years and 2 semesters per year. Two internal examinations are conducted in each semester and the final examination is there at the end of the semester. The difficulty level depends on the amount of preparation a student has done and the passing criteria is 50%. We have an 85 percent attendance policy, unlike other colleges with a 75 percent attendance policy.

Here faculties are very educated and most of them have a Ph.D from a good university and have good teaching experience in their respective fields. They are very helpful and students can ask relevant doubts at any time during office hours. The entire faculty is available during office hours and students can also contact them on WhatsApp in a formal manner. They complete syllabus on time and also guide you throughout your whole semester.

According to last year's batch, Indian Maritime University Visakhapatnam placement rate is 95 percent and other students opted for higher studies and some of them were not sitting for the placements. The top recruiting companies include the IRS (Indian Register of Shipping), L&T and other companies. Here students have to do a compulsory internship at the end of the 3rd year and most of them opt for the shipyards as they get exposure to our field and experience which adds to their CV which helps at the time of placement.

Here Hostel is better as compared to other colleges and has better infrastructure. There are separate hostels for girls and boys and also separate wardens for both hostels. There are fixed timings to enter the hostel at night and every time we go out of the campus we have to take the signature of the warden on the form provided by the warden itself.

Here the infrastructure is better as the campus is new and a lot of construction work is also going on the campus. A new girls' hostel has been built, and also planning for a sports complex for the students but it will take a long time to build this much. We have separate grounds for cricket and football but it is not that much developed and work is still going on to improve the ground so that students can play with ease.

IMU Vizag is mainly focused on academics and very little is there to enjoy but still there are different clubs in our college and different houses are there which keep on organizing events for the students. There are Clubs like Orienteer and Prakriti Club through which we can go trekking and beach cleaning. We have different houses in our college and house vise competition is also held for the students.
