JSS Banashankari Arts, Commerce and S.K. Gubbi Science College. As you can tell by the college name, that it offers courses of all streams that is science, arts and commerce. It is located in Vidyagiri of Dharwad city. Vidyagiri is one such area of Dharwad; it is actually a JSS campus, where you can complete your whole education career from Nursery to post graduation. The campus is quite huge and spacious. The admission process is quite simple, students are given seats according to their interests, grades or percentage, there is also a provision of paid seats. College management is also really good, handles everything pretty well. Overall a good undergraduate college to get into.

I had joined B.Sc course with subjects like chemistry, zoology and biotechnology (CZBt). Eligibility for this course is to get grades in PU, and getting on the list. The college offers both life science and non- life science combinations but there's no option of doing honors as of now. There's no particular college entrance exam. I had opted for B.Sc in CZBt because I was interested in biotechnology. The course subjects were pretty much as per my expectations, biotechnology department had good amount of equipments as per the fees, we have to pay extra laboratory fees for biotechnology department. This course alone won’t be helpful in getting a job; you have to do M.Sc or other higher studies. You might get a job of lab assistant upon completion of this course.

Faculty in this college is quite good, I had 4 teachers for our department, and it totally depends on the subjects. Every subject has at least 4 or minimum no. Of faculty allotted. Average years of experience of teachers in teaching is 3-4 years. But our college gives chance to new teachers too, if they are good in teaching. Minimum Academic qualifications of our teachers are M.Sc and B.Ed, but maximum of our faculty members are PhD holders or who are doing their PhD or in the verge of completing their PhD. Almost all teachers are experienced and teach subjects very well but as they say there has to be some defect, so there are some teachers who don't teach very well but are manageable.

Placement in our college is pretty average. Top companies visiting our campus for placement are Infosys. Mainly students from Commerce department get placement, other than that BBA and BCA student get placement. There's no much placement or scope for life science students. But there's good no. of scholarships this college offers, different types of state national and international level scholarship which students can get if they are talented enough. Some students have got scholarship up to Rs. 1Lakh. There are also scholarships for different categories.

Hostel facilities are good too, there is college hostel and there are other PG's, hostels and rooms available near college, so it’s very unlikely to face a problem for accommodation. Girls and boys hostels are separate and both of the hostel's wardens are quite strict, girl's hostel is warden is much strict compared to boys, good security facilities. Food quality is good, there isn't much complaint about it, but obviously there's nothing like home cooked food.

JSS has one of the biggest campuses in Dharwad, as said before Vidyagiri has all from JSS schools to JSS post graduation colleges. There are good and enough no. of classrooms, there's a huge library in the campus with thousands and lakhs of books available in all streams. Laboratories are well equipped with necessary equipment, chemicals and things with good arrangements. My subject was biotechnology; biotech laboratory had all the big equipments like laminar air flow cabinet (LAF), centrifuge, incubator and necessary glassware. College has a quadrangle and a playground. There are facilities of cafeterias, book stores and general stores in the campus. There are two auditoriums, one for conducting fests like freshers, farewells, science day etc. and the other for arts students.

Campus life is one of the best times. There are different types of fests conducted; cultural activities are integral part of JSS campus. All of the special days like science day, sports day, women's day, environmental day are celebrated sportingly. There is a playground covering a big area, no. of tournaments are held, where students play up to state and national level and bring prizes and glory to the college, sad thing is because of COVID many things have stopped, events which were supposed conduct haven't conducted. Otherwise college conducts all the events, fests, cultural activities and celebrations.
