Syamaprasad College B.A Review By Ankita Banerjee

My overall experience at Syamaprasad College was pretty good. Syamaprasad College is an under graduate institute affiliated with University of Calcutta. After passing the 12th from ISC Board, I was looking forward to taking admission into a reputed university, and Calcutta University was my first choice. So, I decided to choose a college situated in South Calcutta, and then one of my friends recommended this institute. My college timing was from 4.30 pm to 8 pm. I found it very convenient as I got ample time to focus on other things while I pursued my bachelor's degree. The location was also great as it takes only 2 mins from the metro station to reach the college. So, one of the reasons for choosing this institute was its location. Students who want to pursue the Humanities subjects, I would highly recommend Syamaprasad College for the above-mentioned factors.

When I was in 9th grade, I fell in love with the English subject. This is the reason why I chose to pursue Bachelor of Arts in English. The minimum qualification required to pursue this course at Syamaprasad College is to pass the 12th exam with a minimum aggregate of 60%. Also, candidates must secure above 80% in English in their 12th board examination. Students passing from ISC, CBSE, or State Boards will be allowed to enrol for the same. The English course will include American Literature, Indian Literature and its history, Role of Literature in India's Independence, and many more. Also, in the 1st semester, students will have to choose an additional subject other than English which can be Hindi, Bengali, or Physical Activity.

Syamaprasad College's faculty members are experts in their own fields. Especially, the faculty members of the English department were very helpful and friendly. They provided notes after every lecture which helped a lot during the exam days. Usually, a lecture used to be of 45 minutes, and the students had to switch off their phones, or keep them in silence mode. This created a great atmosphere to study and focus on the class without any distractions. Their style of teaching was quite innovative. The last 15 mins of the class involved revisions or sometimes discussions which used to help us in understanding the subject deeply.

The infrastructure of Syamaprasad College includes two academic blocks which is a main building and an annex building. The Saturday classes used to take place in the annex building. The classrooms are wide which can accommodate nearly 60-70 students with big, green boards in front. However, the classrooms of the annex building are comparatively smaller in size. The infrastructure also includes a common room where students can play indoor games like carrom, or chess, or simply spend time with friends. Also, the college building comes with a canteen and a library.

The overall campus life at Syamaprasad College is not that happening but it is decent. Once a year, the institute hosts a fest in the month of October. Some well-known singers add extra colours to this event. Also, every year the seniors arrange a fresher's party to welcome the newcomers. Other than this, students along with the faculty members ensure to do a picnic during the winter seasons. This institute provides a mix of decent campus and academic balance to the students to enhance their college life experience.
