Gurudas College is one of the prestigious colleges in Kolkata. It is an undergraduate college affiliated to Calcutta University. For last sixty years, it has been imparting the education in different fields. It now has more than 20 full-fledged UG programs in its sprawling campus with 3 buildings. As this college is more popular for its Science departments, the college has very impressive, spacious and well-equipped labs. The library of the college is another attraction. Students can go there and study quietly whenever there is an off period. The teachers are very helpful because if students get stuck into any problem, the teachers provide them guidance and help. . All individuals must carry their identity card along with them whenever they enter college premises. The overall experience is quite nice and good.

Gurudas College holds very impressive review regarding academics. The college offers a total number of 18 UG Honors courses based courses and 3 other PG courses. To get into a UG program in Bachelor of Arts, a student is required to have 75% marks in his/ her 12th standard. The more percentile student has the more chances he/she has of getting admission in this college. If any mistake happened while putting the subjects or the students failed to get the subject of their choice, they can visit the admission office and request to change their subject or stream. The college website itself is very helpful as students can even find the management’s phone number for any kind of enquiry. In Journalism, the subjects impart the knowledge regarding how to approach to public, or how to build communication in the first place. Unlike people’s opinion, this department also needs to have the laboratory. I am glad that this college has it.

The professors of every department are very helpful. A student can always reach professor whenever he/she wants to seek help. Every department has an HOD. Each semester starts with a class of HOD who will assist you how the current semester will run (like number of subjects, appointed teaching staff, holidays, etc.). As a student of English department, we used to have a mini library of our own where we can keep our issued copies from library into the mini library. The mini library used to have journals, novels and all other gears that our professors brought if they had to teach through the presentations or show any movie for reference.

Gurudas College has three buildings. The main building is for Humanities and Science departments along with the labs for all the departments (except for Journalism). In other two buildings, one is for Commerce and other is for library and Journalism practical. The college a lush green field where the all the cultural programs are held. The huge central library is well stocked with books and novels that students can ask for. However, each student needs to carry their library card while visiting it and make sure to submit it after the end of each semester. The Commerce building has a small canteen where students can go during lunch time. Every floor of each building has water purifier so that students can drink clean water. The college has different common room for girls and boys where they can relax and have a little chit-chat on their own. These common rooms are equipped with few indoor game facilities such as carom, chess, table tennis, etc.

The college has a few clubs from every department. English department also has club. Being a literature student, we used to read plenty of novels and stories and choose any one of them to prepare and perform for the fest. The college organizes a fest every year 'Nabin Baron Utsav' so that students can enjoy and have fun.
