Gaya College B.Com Review By Shubham Ghosh

Gaya College is situated in Gaya city in Bihar. It is a NAAC B-Grade College and is associated with Magadh University, Bodhgaya. There is lots of gossip around us that these colleges are wasting time and no proper education is provided, but it is not totally true, some teachers are good and understand their students but many of the teachers do not take classes punctually, students have to study mostly on their own. Admissions are done based on the merits (marks earned) of the students, which is neither excessively high nor excessively low, but rather average. Reservations and scholarships are given to SC/ ST/ OBC students. Any work related to the authority office, are never done on time, and they make us visit many people who never arrive on time. Examinations are not conducted on time. I got my B.Com from this college, and it took half a year more to finish because of their delay. The fees asked to the students is very affordable to middle class students as it is a government college and the education provided, worth the money invested. Students prefer to do self-study more through any coaching or by themselves and attend college less. A large number of students are given admissions for the general courses, but only a few of them attend classes. Staffs delay each and every task, which is so annoying to anyone and needs to be fixed. Discipline is not of topnotch quality, but neither is it of low quality. The major drawback is with their lack of maintenance of time, and getting activities delayed. Students are friendly with each other. There is no dress code for general course students but there is dress code present for the vocational course students. Most of the times it remains closed, which again affects the studies. They are slowly improving their working environment, but there is still much improvement to be done. I will rate this college 2.8 out of 5, low rating is because of the irregularity and delays of works.

The education provided by our college is of average quality. Self-study will help students more to score better. Being a commerce student, I was always required to put in extra efforts from my end to score good marks. In the language and literature subject, we were offered to choose any one or two from English, Hindi and Urdu, which combined to make a 100 marks paper. Honors and main papers solely contribute 100 marks each. Teachers are well experienced. Seniors also co-operate with their junior batch mates; they are very helpful.

Gaya College is a general (not specialized) college owned by state government of Bihar. Teachers and Professors are knowledgeable and well experienced in teaching, but they do not takes classes on regular basis and not punctual. They do not teach the subjects in depth.

There is no placement available at our college. Students take admissions to get the degree and prepare for other exams or further studies. In the same way, I also took admission to graduate and get my degree because I had no intention of getting a job. However, the teacher prepares the students for further studies. It is highly recommended to contact the college authorities for the information about placements.

Gaya College has its own hostels on their campus for boys and no hostel for girls. As I was a local student so I didn’t need a hostel room, that’s why I have no knowledge about the facilities provided in the hostels of Gaya College. It is recommended to enquire about the hostel facility to the college authorities. There is a canteen available for everyone, which serves good quality food. No medical facilities are available at our college.

They have a humongous infrastructure, but it needs to be maintained. It covers a huge area of around 82 acres of its own campus. The college is not situated in the main town, but local vehicles are easily available as it is situated on a main road area. Every department has their own separate building with neat and clean washrooms and toilets. It has a good green and calm environment. A parking area is also available for teachers and staffs as well as for students. It has big sports playgrounds, gardens, and a library for students and staffs, auditoriums for meetings and conferences, labs for experiments and practical.

I’ve spent my whole graduation years at this college, they are a bit slow in conducting exams, but they conduct other activities regularly such as sports competitions, dance competitions, art competitions, each up to national level and much more and those years were very close to our heart as we enjoyed and grew a lot. They have their own Banking facilities for fee collection and for other requirements. They provide free Wi-Fi access to staff members and students as well.
