I took admission in National Institute of Engineering (NIE) Mysore, Karnataka in 2014. The College is situated in the beautiful location and in the heart center of the city. The College is given accreditations of AICTE, which assures quality engineering education being given to the students. NIE College is a private College and it gives all the perks you can imagine in a private engineering College. The fees for the undergrad program are 44 thousand rupees per year. Apart from these, hostel fees are different. During the admissions process, the administration of the College was very helpful to all the students. We applied through the application form online, yet the rest of the work was done offline in the management section of the College.
I joined the B. Tech course from the computer science branch. Getting this branch is much easier in private Colleges like this one, but gets pretty hard as the rankings of the College increases. So, this would have given you a brief idea about the rankings of the College. The reason I joined this course and this College is because I didn't get a qualifying score for any NITs in my JEE-Mains examination. The eligibility to join this College was 45% in your intermediate examination and there is no such entrance examination conducted for admission. However, I remember for some fee-waiver you can sit in the College's scholarship test.
This course was extremely helpful to me in pursuing any internship. The foremost role in getting an off-campus internship was of my professors. I used to ask my professors about internship programs and would seek their referrals. I had given interviews of 4-5 internships this way and luckily got all. There are around 30 faculty members who teach us, as far as I can remember. All the professors are highly educated. I didn't see anyone here without the Master's Degree. They teach the subject very well. In my College years, I decided to do project-based learning; hence I also joined so many training programs and workshops in my first year; however, the enthusiasm got over within a few months.
Placements here in our campus, the percentage ratio is very high but the CTC is very low. The top companies visited in our College were LG, Vista, CNT, etc. I did not sit for placements in our College days because I wanted to do Master's in computer applications. Thus, I started preparing for GATE exams. Alongside of GATE exams, I prepared for many other exams. I did not have much experience how the placement sessions here; however, I witnessed the heat of the placement season. Everyone gets so focused and dedicated all of sudden for placements, especially when it is the final semester of the entire College life. The average package was around 18 LPA.
I took the College's hostel in my first year. The hostel service is nice, yet, I declined hostel from my third year. In the hostel, you get a medium-size room that is shared between two students. Hostel service was nice back then. The mess food was tasty some days and some days you can't even stand in front of it. Apart from this, the hostel's accommodation service is nice. The room is easy to clean; corridors are always cleaned by the hostels. Other hostel services such as library, gym, etc. The hostel service is nice but it is moderate quality.
The College campus was not very big and it was of moderate size. The location of the College adds to its beauty. Building designs were very nice. The buildings are built for the all-time cold season and designed beautifully. The classrooms were modern and up-to-date back then. There is one big building for the library and the entire campus was Wi-Fi facilitated. However, the Wi-Fi speed was very poor; it was only working in computer labs and administrative areas. There is one huge auditorium for the cultural programs where all the minor events take place.
Campus life here was very beautiful. I am pretty sure no one has enjoyed the views of Mysore more than me. Our College does not have so many fests and events. We were not able to even witness many College trips and festivals. However, to compensate we did so much traveling in Mysore and nearby places. Trust me: the nearby places of the Colleges are very beautiful and fun to hang out. We also use to hangout and converse in our free time in the local food stalls. There was this one food stall in our campus where we used to sit before and after our classes, in our free time, and also when we were bored.
