Indira College of Commerce and Science BCA Review By Rohit Singh

I can say that it was a mistake to join Indira College, when we have a lot of colleges that offers BCA in Pune. Its management wing is one of the best but certainly not so for BCA. Consistent academic records are required to get admissions here as BCA doesn’t have any entrance here but scores of 10ths and 12th both were considered. The college has made us learn hard work though as BCA may not be that tough a course but ICCS Pune has made it look tough by adding more and more practicals. They were supposed to happen once in the first two semesters but in due course they started happening every alternate day. The problem was that the course wasn’t that advanced of course I can’t compare that with engineering but still BCA has to be a little more advanced in terms of languages that we learned. BCA, I feel is a course which is still lagging because nor does it improve any skill set, neither does it teaches us all the acumen of coding or hacking.

ICCS’s academics are strict because the attendance were marked daily and though proxy was done but still if you don’t have friends who can do that, you will have to face the consequences. After BCA all I had was a good knowledge of what engineers study but what we studied looked incomplete. So, even in that incomplete course, we had to work hard fight our way out because even the basic learning takes time and in three years, we had our basics clear as ICCS teaching system was quite robust. The only problem is that you can’t be best in the work of your field otherwise the college has done tremendously well in teaching what our books had.

Finest of the people because more than their teaching capabilities it was their humility that touched me more. They gave us many reasons to cheer because studies are a pressure thing but students of ICCS never had to take any extra load because in classes and labs we were taught almost everything twice that a revision was enough to get through. Some students who bunked the classes had to face the consequences but those who were regular have enjoyed studying under the faculties more than ever. I have done MCA and those faculties were great too but in comparison, I was more comfortable or inclined with ICCS’s faculties style of teaching.

Well just a couple of companies came for placements of BCA students and the package offered was 2-3 lakhs per annum. Basically, we were offered trainee jobs as the companies will first train us and then give a specific role. Honestly speaking none of us were ready to do anything more because either we could have studied or we would have taken our career further post training. To me, the initial jobs matter a lot and that was the sole reason I denied the opportunity that I got.

The college doesn’t have a hostel in campus but the Indira group hostel that is Tribe Hostel was just a mile away from the campus. One of the most modernized hostels that one will ever find. One of my friends used to stay there so I was allowed to visit some of the breakout areas of the hostel. The hostel had top quality furniture, two restaurants and a mess. The gym was world class and there was a separate study area too. It was more like a hotel as laundry service was provided, Wi-Fi was provided, linens of the rooms were changed frequently. All the rooms were air-conditioned and luckily there was no time restriction but after 11 pm the gate used to get closed so those who were stuck outside had to stay outside then.

Well in comparison to Tribe hostel, the infrastructure was way below. The labs and all were modernized and the campus area was good too as the college was spread in over 5 acres of land. The computer lab of the college was one of the biggest as it had around 300-400 systems and was fully air-conditioned. The main building Dhruv which was reserved for science students was the latest building as rest buildings were poor. The open auditorium was big enough to space 500+ students. The playground was small as most of the areas were occupied and what we were left with was a small area to play sports.

Life at ICCS was great as there were two big fests in cultural and sports fests were organized every year. Apart from that too there were events galore and it has more to do with the city because Pune city colleges have highlighted their fests so much that every college has decided to spend and invest in the events. Well, this way their marketing is also done and students too get a great campus life.
