CGEC Cooch Behar Admissions through JEE Main and WBJEE

I am a pass out student of CGEC also known as Coochbehar Government Engineering College. I completed my B.Tech in electrical engineering. The engineering days I CGEC are one of the greatest of my life. I enjoyed every moment of my 4 years of course as a B.Tech student life is very different in here. It's very good to be honest rather than the course. There are a lot of things to do and enjoy. It's a perfect combo of study and enjoyment.

I chose Electrical Engineering in my B.Tech course because I like technical fields and Electrical Engineering. The eligibility of a student at Coochbehar Government Engineering College is decided on the basis of rankings of two competitive exams JEE Main and WBJEE as this is a tier 3 college the rankings are not that demanding. A student who ranks under 3,000 to 4,000. All India could get CSE easily and under 10,000 could choose what he or she needs (technical fields). Admission process is very easy as it could be done physically as well as online. It's easy for long distance students and Admission fees may vary for different courses but it's still less than other colleges as it's a government college too. The college has good teachers that are frequent and humble to students. They don’t give any pressure of studies to students and they can attend classes for 3 or 4 days a week. You can personally interact with teachers if he or she needs. Exams are frequent here. There are 8 semesters for 4 years. Other than this there are some internals which are 4 in number per year in which 3 are online and one offline. Students can skip one of the internal but it's upto him or her if he/she wants good marks or not. The exams are easy to pass.

The fee structure varies depending on different courses. For technical fields like EE, ECE, ME and CE the tuition fee at Coochbehar Government Engineering College is Rs. 3,000 per semester. For CSE it's Rs. 6,000 per semester and students have to pay an additional Rs. 1,200 rupees as exam fee.

The faculty members are great. You will get almost 7 to 8 teachers for each course. They are very humble towards students and are very helpful. They provide notes and guidance. You will get everything here. They use both technical as well as non technical support to teach. Every faculty is highly professional in teaching field and it provides best atmosphere to students. They are very intellectual and intelligent people with great problem solving skills.

Now that's an important thing as being a tier 3 college the placements are average but the good thing is that it's improving day by day as it's in its development stages. Don’t worry just do your best. Now it's about the packages, the highest packages are 6 to 10 LPA for both technical and non technical and the lowest is about 2.5 to 3 LPA.

Hostel is excellent and you will get proper hostel life feeling. There are mainly 2 hostel buildings for boys as well as girls in Coochbehar Government Engineering College. It consists of 120 rooms each. Long distance students will get it easily but it will be difficult for local students. The hostel fee is affordable i.e. Rs. 12,000 per year including food, water and electricity. There are water purifiers and water coolers for summer uses.

The infrastructure of Coochbehar Government Engineering College is excellent. Its situated near Tista river. You will enjoy the views from college and feel the cold breeze of it. The campus size is large enough so you will enjoy it. The class rooms are huge and there's an auditorium as well for program purposes. There's a library but not that large. You will get necessary books for sure and can study there too if you want. The college labs are sort of average but it consists of everything you need to learn. Canteen is good, large and always crowded. The college ground is large enough and sports events are conducted every year but my favorite among all is the atmosphere of college which gives good vibes every time.

My overall campus life at Coochbehar Government Engineering College was good, busy and full of joy. The college is heavily crowded as a lot of students got admissions here. There are clubs for each event like sports, drama, dance, art, etc. I was part of the art club and technical club. There's a lot to engage with if you want the opportunity. Yes, there is a fest that is part of college life. There are mainly 3 types of fest- technical fest, art fest and cultural fest.
