College Life at DoC New Delhi

Overall Rating
My experience is good at Department of Commerce New Delhi, as I have to learn many new things here. I was also a part of the placement cell and there I improved my soft skills. I chose this college because it is a premiere institute for M.Com. Even if someone takes admission in other college in DU for this course, they will have to take classes in Department of Commerce New Delhi itself. All the course curriculum related to Commerce that you see in DU is designed at by the faculty of my college.
 

Academics Rating
I chose to do M.Com because I was preparing for competitive exams and since there is no attendance requirement here, it was perfect. You need to have done B.Com, if you want to take admission in this course and you have to clear CUET PG Commerce for it. The syllabus of CUET PG is everything, you have studied during your graduation. Overall, the cut off for this course is not high and one can easily pass this exam with just revising what you have learned during your graduation. Now for the Masters, it is more focused on academics rather than practical application as most students do this course for getting admission in PhD.
The actual fee you have to pay is Rs. 13,500. For library, you have to pay Rs. 1,200 separately. There is no discount on fee but if your annual income is low then you can avail Vice chancellor scholarship and you will get refund of approximately Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 10,000.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty members in first year are mostly Assistant Professors but in second year, senior most faculties having Doctorate will start teaching you. The senior professor is very reputed and they had even attended conferences in foreign countries. They also conduct webinar every 2 to 3 months in which they invite people who are famous in their field. The teaching method is using whiteboard, projector, and led display. The class strength is 200+ students and around 30 to 100 students show up for classes depending on the subject/professor.
 

Placement Rating
The placement cell is called career management cell. It handles all the work related to placements. You can join placement cell only in your first year and they take interview to select students. Cell also conducts different workshops like CS building, etc. by inviting industry people from outside. At placement cell, we directly contact HRs of different companies and invite them for campus placement. Deloitte is the mass recruiter here and hires at around 5.5 LPA to 6.5 LPA.
 

Hostel Rating
There is no hostel facility available here.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The infrastructure is very old and is not upto standards. There is construction going on the campus. There is also issue with class size as there are 200+ students in one class and the class can only accommodate 150 students. However, things will improve in a year or two when the construction of new classes finishes. There is a lawn in front of economics faculty, which students use most of the time to hangout.
 

Campus Rating
The campus life totally depends on the company. If you have good friends then you can enjoy anywhere. Department of Commerce New Delhi is in North campus, so around March you can enjoy fest offered by other colleges with your friends. Last time in Astha gill was invited to perform during one of the fest. The clubs also conduct some events for example the Yuva club organized a trip to sunder nursery, the rotract club sometimes do movie weekends etc.
