My Academic &Campus Experience at N.M.S.M Govt. College Wayanad

Overall Rating
If you are looking for a college away from city vibes, you might find NMSM Government College Kalpetta to your liking. I was a B.A Mass Communication And Journalism student there. More than just an Institution of academic, NMSM was a pathway to exploration as it situated amidst the greenery of Wayanad. One of the drawbacks I found was the long distance it had from main road to college entrance. However, the students union provides an extensive bus services both in the morning and evening.
 

Academics Rating
I got admission in this college through merit list. One of the reason to chose NMSM is that, it the only Government college providing Journalism degree under University of Calicut All the other affiliated colleges provide a self financing degree. The exams are scheduled under the Calicut University.
There are no specific course fees except exam fee as the program is aided by Government. Also, they provide several scholarships like E- grantz, and others. There is security fund which is remitted at the time of admission process and will be returned after graduation.
 

Faculty Rating
NMSM had great faculty members under my department. It includes professors with extensive experience in both the media and teaching field. Faculties there are a great resource for the students. The faculties are also members of University senate. They had also provided a resourceful path as a research guide in the last year of thesis.
 

Hostel Rating
The college provides hostel for girls’ which is situated right beside the college in a walking distance. The hostel area is small but is being expanded from last year onwards. Hostel gate closing time is 8:00 PM. Other than hostel, there are also several guest house options available nearby the campus for girls’. Moreover, hostel for boys are not provided. I was not a hostel inmate.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The college is in Kalpetta. The college entrance is around 2 KMs way from the main road. The academic blocks are scattered across an altitude. There is a large auditorium where most of the events take place. The college canteen is just outside the entrance making it an easily accessible place for everyone. One of my favorite places in the campus is the rocks garden where in between rocks and amidst the large trees, there is pathway for walking. Also the campus has many seating options outside the academic building which create a cool gathering vibe in the campus.
 

Campus Rating
My overall experience in campus was great. What I enjoyed the most in the college was making friends and NCC. The college offers both NSS and NCC. Both of the organisation work as a great help to the community. Onam, Xmas, Holi, Election, etc are some major celebration & activities held throughout the year. Also, other special days are celebrated through events or activities which are conducted by several clubs or NCC / NSS volunteers. The college is not just open for academics; it invites everyone for exploration in several ways.
