Started in 1970, Government Law College Kozhikode is a Public Education Institution

First of all, I am a BBA.LL.B (Hons.) student at the Government Law College Kozhikode. I joined the College on 4th November, 2024. Now I am in the end of the 3rd semester. The experience I had here was totally different from my schooling. Students who want to study can focus on studies and those who don't want to can just go with the flow. Nobody will force you for anything. If you want to go to the right path, then there are a lot of ways including Moot Club societies, Management societies, and various Clubs to upgrade your skills. All you have to do is take the initiative. Other reason for choosing this College was that it is near to the city but not at the centre and traveling is also convenient. A peaceful atmosphere, experienced faculties, reliable Library, strong Moot culture, etc. makes this College different from the others.

I have chosen this course after completing 12th. I choose this course because I am intending to practise in Corporate after completing the degree. Hence, the BBA degree will be a great addition to that. If you want to get into this College, you have to write the Kerala Law Entrance Exam (KLEE) which is conducted every year in May or June. You can give this exam after your 12th boards. You should get a rank below 300 to get admission without any reservations. The admission process is easy and it requires you to go to the College with the necessary documents for verification after getting your results. There are ten semesters in this course and at the end of every semester, you will have exams. The results are published in one month. f you want to be academically active here, no one will push you like in conventional Private Institutions. So in order to have a fruitful academic life, one must explore the resources available and should be willing to grab the opportunity.

The most attractive thing about this College is its cost of education. The total fee for an academic year is around Rs. 15,000/-. This fee includes Tuition fee, Admission fee, Registration fee, and all other charges. Reservations are there based on Caste, EwS, Sports, Disability, etc. A lot of scholarships are provided based on different categories.

The faculty members are very qualified. Most Law faculties have done their LLMs and Ph.Ds from top Law Colleges including NLUs. Most faculties use PPTs, Blackboards, and Group Discussions as a method of teaching. The teachers here are very approachable and they are always available during the working hours to help the students. A flaw that I must mention is that the number of permanent faculty is low as compared to other Colleges. Most of our teachers are guest faculties. So, there might be disruption in lectures. Overall, the experience with both permanent and guest faculties is great as they are all friendly and very approachable.

Our placement is managed by a set of students elected by our College Union. This ensures transparency and efficiency of functioning. Every year, a set of companies approach our College in search of fresh & young minds. The Placement Cell conducts Mock Interviews to refine students’ skills in tackling interviews and grab every opportunity that comes their way.

The College offers residential facilities after the first year. And it is based on the distance from the College to the student’s home. The girls’ and boys’ hostels are separate. The hostel also provides quality food with good hygiene around 4 times a day including Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks. Hostel has no curfew as the College is open 24/7. My overall experience at the hostel has been good as it is cost-effective and suitable for living.

The infrastructure of the Government Law College Kozhikode campus is average and there is a lot to improve. However, it provides all basic facilities for the students. As of now. We have the oldest Library among other Law Colleges in Kerala and it has thousands of different books from different genres. There are magazines & journals and the students can also access online Legal databases like Manupatra, SCC, etc in the Library. The Classrooms are decent and there are Projectors as well. Each nook and corner of our College has a CCTV. The main attraction is our Sports Room. There are multiple games in there.

The overall campus life is fabulous. The campus has a diverse environment which facilitates growth and self-development throughout the course duration. Apart from studies, our College also encourages cultural and recreational activities to foster skill-development and active-engagement. Our campus is very much involved in Politics which enables the students to grow into adults with social responsibility. Five years at Government Law College Kozhikode is worth it in every aspect.
