Life of 2nd Year Student at Tezpur Medical College & Hospital

Overall Rating
I am currently a second year student in TMCH Tezpur. I come from Rajasthan, which is a predominantly Hindi speaking state, so the very first challenge I faced was the language barrier. The College is situated in a remote area, so no big restaurant or malls within a 30 min distance. I came in the second counselling of all India quota and did not opt for an upgrade, and I am quite satisfied with my decision.
 

Academics Rating
It is one of the best College for academics in Assam. It focuses a lot on academics including regular practical classes, field visits, and clinical postings. The documentation required is mentioned on the College website. For the first and second year student, there are 2 internal assessment, prelims, and finals. As for the third and final year students, we have internal assessment, prelims, and finals. During the admission, the College will organise examination conducted in the hospital.
As I am hosteler, my fee was around Rs. 25,000/-. Before final exams, every year we have to give the registration fees Rs. 15,000/- or Rs. 5000/- for state quota students, examination fee is Rs. 4000/-. Scholarship is given to the students who are eligible.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculties here are experienced and are good at what they do. Regular SGD and SGT are arranged on topics and formative assessment is conducted by them. In a batch, there are 125 students. No department is short handed of faculty. The teachers prepare a PPT of topics and present it during class. Regular seminars are conducted and we are even given chances for research. Every faculty has a degree of MS and MD. Some have even higher degrees.
 

Placement Rating
After final year, we have to do our Internship in the hospital. Assam is one of the highest paying state for medical Internships. After a year of internship, we have to go for 1 year of mandatory rural postings. The College even has postgraduate programmes.
 

Hostel Rating
Tezpur Medical College & Hospital has 2 girl’s hostel,’ 3 boys’ hostel, and faculty blocks. The mess fee is around Rs. 3000/-. The washrooms are common in a hostel. The final year students are mostly provided with double or single seater rooms.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The campus of the College is big. There are four lecture halls, 2 library, and practical rooms, demonstration rooms, and museums. However, the hospital has a canteen. There is a badminton court and a big ground for other sports. Every year there is a foundation day, a College week. College weak is fun; there are many activities. My favorite part of the campus is the AC library. There is even a gym in the College.
 

Campus Rating
College life needs to be better as events are not held on a regular basis. Clubs can also be formed for students.
