Overall Rating
Velammal Engineering College, Chennai is one of the top engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. I joined here because of the placements and my cousin also studied here. The college is in a very safe area and I had very amazing memories here till now. The placement trainings are very interactive. I got many friends in class as well as in hostel.
 

Academics Rating
As we know, CSE, IT, and ECE are the dominant courses. For admission into CSE branch, you are required to score 180+ cut off. IT branch requires above 175 cut off for admission. ECE branch requires 165+ cut off. My opinion is to take any of these 3 courses in this college. As I am an IT student, I have experienced a lot of advantages than the other departments.
 

Faculty Rating
Staff is very kind and knowledgeable. They are very friendly to us. Some staffs were little strict. We have regular class tests, monthly tests, etc. It is more than enough if we study well for those monthly tests to score good marks in semester exams, as it is an autonomous institution. There are smart classes and 3 computer labs for our department.
 

Placement Rating
Yes, we have a placement cell and it is really helpful for us. They update everything about the hiring process. We have a placement cell group. In that we receive all the info from the management. Nearly 75 companies were involved in the hiring process. The major companies are TCS, Zoho, CTS, HCL, Capgemini, Accenture, etc. At the beginning of the 6th semester itself they will start the hiring process.
 

Hostel Rating
As I am a hosteller, there is much more to share. But I will say very briefly here. The food is normal. We should not expect too much. 4 days in a week, we have non-veg. Rooms are not so comfortable. Students should adjust. Infrastructure is good and we have more time to relax and enjoy in the hostel.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Infrastructure is good. School and college are located at the same place. The playground is also opened after long days. Mess, canteen, and hostel everything is nearby. We don’t need to walk more. We can also relax in ground or park. There is not much distance between college and the hostel.
 

Campus Rating
Here we have many club activities such as NSS, Cyber security club, NCC, UBA, Rotaract, etc. Also we conduct symposiums for each and every year. School students were also engaged with us during any activities. We can also go out by writing a letter to HOD and with the permission of parents (if you are a hosteller).
