St. Joseph's College B.Sc Review By Akash

It ranks as the 25th college as per NIRK Ranking 2023 and stood at the 7th position all over Tamil Nadu. It is the top most college in Tiruchirapalli for so many decades and has recently celebrated its 175th year. I joined the B.Sc Mathematics in 2020 because of their rankings and affordable fee structure. If you are looking for good college in Bachelors with moderate fee you may go with this college.

For B.Sc Mathematics I pay Rs. 9,000 per semester and exam fee of Rs. 1,500. If you got above 70% in higher secondary and good well marks in the major you chose, it is enough for the eligibility however it is a Christian minority college so they give seat to the economically poor students from any category and they give up to 60% seats to the Christian students. Most of the students in the colleges are middle class and low middle people. My motive to enroll is that you have the choice of pursuing any program if you have mathematics like you can go for MCA, MBA, Data science, CS, IT, MA English, Tamil, and lateral entry B.Tech courses.

All the professors are experienced and very punctual to the classes. They give their best teaching. In my department the educational background of the professors is very good as many of them are from IIT Madras, NIT Trichy, MCC, and many other reputed colleges in Tiruchirapalli. They explain about the concept and give notes to us. They even clear our doubts during and after the class timings.

Yes, we have a placement cell at our college. During the last year of our college they give proper details about the interview and help us apply for the jobs. Above 50 companies came in 2023 from various fields like IT and many others. Placement is completely based on your knowledge and performance.

For UG boys there are two separate hostels for shift 1 and shift 2 people. In my opinion it is the best place to stay in Trichy. Good quality of food and RO drinking water is available. The timings are very strict as 8:30 pm to 10 pm is the study timing and after that till 6 am it is the silent hour. Washrooms are average but the rooms are good. 2 chairs and 2 tables (wooden) per 2 people room. Every Saturday they telecast a movie in open space. Worst thing is that they don't allow you to go to the hostel before 1:20 pm even if your classes are over and not to switch on the lights after 10 pm.

Their structure is very good. Some buildings are constructed via stones and huge height roofs are there which look decent. Infrastructure wise this is a good college. They maintain full cleanliness. According to me the canteen is not that good but they provide free meals to students who come from long distances and to economically poor students.

There is nothing to say about the engagement activities as they are average but NSS and NCC are worth it. They give importance to sports at the national level. The college is located at the center of the city and all kinds of shops are available like for clothing, stationery, food, part time courses, saloons, stalls, bakery, malls, and even theatres.
