Allenhouse Group of Institutions B.Tech Review By Nikhil Sahu

Allenhouse Institute of Technology offers many undergraduate courses and being a local resident was the ideal choice for me. The admission process is through an entrance and even a lesser score can fetch you this college as it has various seats. I didn’t get the program of my choice but was still ok as the college is nearby my home and I don’t regret taking admission in this college. The college is newly built and therefore no complains with the infrastructure facilities. The college was built just a decade back in 2009 and is still new. However, in this little time the college has still earned the tag of the best engineering college in Kanpur. This college is the reason why students have stop migrating to Lucknow or to any other states.

The admission process is simple as you just need to score a minimum of 45% in 12th and rest depends on your UPSEE scores. The college fee is Rs. 90,000 and that I feel is little on the higher side. When I heard about the fees structure of various other engineering colleges. Talking about the studies and students, teachers are less experienced but have adopted latest methods and students come from decent backgrounds and the violence that is associated with many colleges in UP is something I haven’t witness at Allenhouse. Thus on all parameters the college score well and I consider myself lucky that I am a part of Allenhouse Institute of Technology.

Academic wise the college is affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University. Believe it or not but is as tough a university as it can get. Sometimes, I do feel like I shouldn’t have opted for this course and that is the reason the dropout percent after first year was nearly 30%. We are always burdened with studies and projects and sometimes it actually makes me wonder that Engineering students even have a life. Well, I may sound as I am boasting but yes it’s true as the portions are vast and we just get 5 months for a semester as we have long breaks between the semesters. This is not ideal comparing the portions but these are University rules and can’t help it.

In all the academic culture in the college is good as we have classes from morning to noon and 2 classes post lunch. Hence, we are mostly done by 3pm. The labs are well-equipped and therefore practical are more fun than the classes. The classrooms are huge and it easily accommodates 60 students in the class. Social distancing can be easily maintained in the classrooms as there’s enough space between one bench and the other. Thus academic wise not so complaints but we are happy with a 15 days gap between the semesters. I hope University take a note of it and make sure they work towards it.

I wish the college should have roped in some professors from IIT Kanpur as the professors are not so experienced. Young and understands students’ needs but the syllabus takes a lot of toll out of them. Also the student teacher ratio is quite less as there are in all some 30 professors including all the engineering faculties. Many times if you ask professors for extra classes they are already occupied and no one wants to ruin their Sunday plans. Hence, the students are left with no choice but to clear their doubts among themselves.

The faculty is equally active during practicals and also make sure that students don’t miss out on them. In engineering anyways practicals are as important as theory sessions and the faculty members have taught us this. Hereby, the college should increase the number of professors and also rope in some fresh legs in experience. The college needs it big time.

Uttar Pradesh and placements never go hand in hand. Yes, on the college site, you will see that a lot MNCs visit the college campus and has provided 100% placement. Trust me this is not true at all. Yes some engineering and IT companies have started visiting and also hires some every year but the percent is still 50. Only half the students get placed and that too are invited to big cities on a package that is not enough for survival in those cities.

The average package that engineering students gets is around Rs. 3.5 LPA and I don’t know about exactly who bagged the highest but one person bagged Rs. 6 LPA package and the college boasted it for a while. Yes, it’s a big deal considering the college is relatively new but I hope that college is run by Superhouse Education Foundation who has their contacts at the top. Thus please invite companies as students are smart and can work equally efficiently as the students from big cities engineering colleges can.

Since the college is new and kept a lot of expectations therefore they built 2 hostels inside the college campus. Two three storey building as one is boy’s hostel and one is girl’s hostel. Since, I am a local I haven’t used hostel services but the building is nice and the outsiders who stay in the hostel have always praised the AIT’s hostel. There are in all 30 rooms in the boy’s hostel and all on twin sharing basis. The mess is inside the hostel building and the food provided is also great. The girl’s hostel too is similar as they have a common area and a games room.

The hostel fee though is slightly higher with INR 62,000 a year. I felt its a little high as the rooms don’t have air conditioners and just fans. There are two separate beds and 2 separate cupboards in the room. A small attach bathroom and is good enough for students. I have visited the hostel building once in my 1st year and I liked it. The hostel timings are strict as girls hostel gate closes at 9pm and boys hostel gate at 10pm.

The college admin and classes is in 1 huge building that is located at the center of a 12 acre campus. The building is huge as the right wing of the building at the ground is admin department and 1st and 2nd floors are where classes are conducted. A stocked library is at the ground floor and also a storeroom at the ground floor. The college outfield is lust green and has wide open areas. Two nicely measured grounds are also at the campus and University cricket matches are played at our campus. The college also has an auditorium that is good enough to occupy some 400 students at a time, the strength of the college is huge and therefore we needed such big size auditorium.

The college has all the science labs and all of them are well equipped. There’s a computer lab that is built just like a great cybercafé as students are allotted a certain time on their i-cards and that is how we access the computer lab. The college campus has a small but a nice little canteen that offers tea, coffee, samosa and some snacks. Many students are seen eating their tiffins in the canteen. The canteen is occupied during lunch breaks otherwise easy to have canteen’s access. Before heading home I head to canteen and sip a cup of tea with friends in the college canteen. What else one can ask for as academic related all the facilities are incorporated in the college campus. Oh sorry, how can I forget the large parking area. It can accommodate some 300-400 cars and 1000 two wheelers, the parking is that huge. The college building is quite new as during vacations the college always gets painted. Hence, nice attractive college that has all the features which students who genuinely want to study needs.

Well I was bit skeptical when I learned that college has uniform. However, it’s in the best interest of all the students as no one is discriminated in the college. During winters coat is provided by the college and no entry in college is allowed if students don’t wear the uniform. The sports day, annual celebrations day of my first year was something that is still fresh in my memory and will always be. Since we were fresher’s in 2018, we were pushed to participate in the sports day and cultural programs. Singing has been my hobby and me along with 4 members formed a band and performed at the cultural program in 2018. The culture program of AIT, Kanpur is followed by the local media as our college is quite popular in Kanpur.

The sports day too is followed the same way and sports are given importance even by our teachers. Students who are into sports are encouraged by teachers to play post the college hours. I just see from the bleachers as I am not into sports. I have heard a lot about fresher’s party at the college, jam sessions at the college. Yes, we don’t have any of that at AIT but are still happy with what the campus has offered. I have always felt privileged at the campus as the college campus is completely Wi-Fi with some restrictions of-course. The security is tight and any form of ragging or violence is treated with due care from the management. I don’t think that I could have wished or asked for anything else. I am enjoying my college life the way I always thought of. If you take general consensus, it will always be satisfied as no one will complain in any regard apart from the faculty. Thus, I have enjoyed every bit of my time at AIT, Kanpur and will recommend this college.
