Ekarma College B.Com Review By Saurav Patra

Ekarma college is situated in Odisha's capital city Bhubaneswar at Prime location of Bhimatangi. It is one of the most famous colleges in Bhubaneswar, particularly for my stream, which is commerce. It is NAAC accredited and one of the oldest Institutions of Odisha. I choose this college for my bachelors is because of its location, which is close to bus stop. It is also a college where we can find variety of branches so there is diversity among the student crowd. The overall experience in this college is very good, and the faculty and the seniors are very supportive and encourage to excel in life. I liked my time here and it helped me grow as a person.

My course was bachelors in commerce, which is a three years course, and to get into this course you have to apply in their counseling and then according to your 12th marks you will be allotted your branch. The entry requirements are that you should have passed your 10 + 2 from any board. My main motive behind enrolling in this course was because of my passion into business and interest in commerce field. In addition, this is one of the most demanded colleges in Bhubaneswar.

The Odisha Government appoints the faculty members in this college as the government of Odisha runs this college. The faculty members are good and they are well qualified to teach at such Institute. Their background is good and they have good academic record. However, as this is not an elite college, there are some under qualified professors as well, but very few. The style of teaching is very student friendly and they encourage students to excel in academics as well as get good marks in the process.

The placements are not up to the mark when compared to other colleges in the state. The placements cell of this college is not much established and there is very less effort from the administration to ensure good placements through on campus placement drives but the college tries to provide us with industry experience and skills required to acquire jobs after graduation.

There is a small residential facility in this institution only for people who come from outside but as mostly the students are day scholars there is very less demand for hostel in this college. As this is very small hostel there is not much infrastructure and facilities but the good thing is that the hostel is inside the campus. For recreational activities, there is badminton court and indoor games complex.

The infrastructure is very under developed due to but the academic area is well established and there are separate blocks for each department. There is an academic building attached to main building, and there is one central library. There are labs mostly for science field. The classrooms are big but there should be use of technology such as smart board that is absent right now.

The overall campus life is good and enjoyable. I liked my time in this college. The crowd is decent and mostly urban. There is good exposure but there are not many clubs present in this college and fests hardly happen. But other engagement activities such as Ganesh puja and Independence day happen throughout the year with nice celebrations. Since this is in Bhubaneswar there is a lot of scope to explore places.
