Bejoy Narayan Mahavidyalaya B.A Review By Farhin Sultana

Bejoy Narayan Mahavidyalaya, set up in 1950 and is situated in the Hooghly (West Bengal) region. When it was founded, it was under Calcutta University (1950-1957). But in present it is associated with Burdwan University. The admission process is very crystal clear here. After submitting result, the college authority publishes a list .The list contains the marks of the student ranking wise. The students who achieve the highest marks grab the first seat. And the process continues like this until the last seat. If a department has 60 seats, the authority only permit 60 students. There is no chance of seat enhancement. The college management is qualitative.

After completing my 12th examination, I admitted in B.A. English (Hons) in this college. The college authority allows students to admit in this course according to the merit list. The one whose name is on the top of the list, get the first seat. Like any other college, here one couldn't join in any unethical ways like bribe etc. The main reason to join this college was the English department. The department is very rich in quality. Before attending the course, I was blank about the quality of teachers. I was only known about the department. After joining, I was satisfied with the teachers and their teaching. The teachers were friendly enough which I barely expected. Mainly the HOD, I couldn't see such a down to earth people. I learnt many things from the teachers which now I can implement. Now I am a content writer and my college study helped me a lot. I got a lot of this from this department which was beyond my expectations.

When I was in the course, there were 10 faculties approximately. Over all faculties were very good in number. Most of the faculties hold doctorate degree. Just because of those faculties, I could become the master of the subject.

The college is a general one and maximum students want to higher study. So the internship program has postponed. But if the students become willing, they can apply for it.

The college provides hostel facility only for the boys. Approximately there are 15 rooms with an open place in front of it. The hostel fees were not less than Rs. 1,000 per month which was affordable enough for many. The hostel authority provides homely food. All the basic necessities are there. Never heard any complain from any hostellers.

The college campus is big in size. Maximum departments have their own buildings. The college has a big library with a massive number of books. Also the English Department owns a library. Both the libraries are sufficient for the students. The college owns a separate big playground. The ground is totally separated from the campus. Also in campus premises, there has enough space to play. The laboratories of science department also are well known. Medical and emergency support system is also enough. They are always ready assist.

Overall campus life is enjoyable, not a boring type. For the friendliness of the teachers the students can enjoy their study life. Every year the college goes for a picnic. Fests and celebrations are at high here.
