Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management BBA Review By Aman Shariff

It all started from my childhood curiosity to explore new places. When, I finished my 12th boards, I already got the idea to get opportunities in travel places. I searched about the course of tourism and IITTM Bhubaneswar’s name in my search list. One of my cousins, who was also a student at this institute confirmed me about this college and gave me a brief about the study curriculum and the faculty overview. And, then I gave the entrance for this examination and got a very good rank. I had the options to select the center like- Gwalior, Bhubaneswar and Nellore. But as my cousin was studying in IITTM Bhubaneswar, I opted for this center.

Recently, I am in the third semester and talking about the past two semesters that I have appeared. This course is extremely useful for tourism. This course style gives us the overview about working condition of tourism industry in real life. We also get other opportunities here to do internship based on our interest like- Tour, Operations, Logistics, Receptionist, etc. If you really want authentic information about the tourism industry, you must go for this course in this college.

The faculty of IITTM Bhubaneswar has got the spotlight, as they are very helpful and always gives us new opportunities to become a better candidate in the Tourism Industry. I want to be a Travel Photographer, and my faculty knows very well about it. So, they always try their level best to provide me good opportunities. And I am always ready to take their offers without any second thought.

I have not really experienced the placement till now, as I am in the third semester only. But I have seen the past two batches that passed placements. Some of them were really very good companies like -Zenith and Thomas Cook Tours and Travels, Flipkart and other large departments. I have seen my seniors getting well paid. So, I intend to complete my MBA from this college and get a good placement. This institute provides good placement, as there are a smaller number of students. So, it’s easy for the institute to provide placements to the student.

Yes, I have been a hosteller since the starting of my course. It’s better than what I have expected from a government hostel. Even though the charges are quite higher if compared to other government colleges, but the services they provide are actually price worthy. We get three times food that includes breakfast, lunch and dinner on time. The rooms are cleaned by the housekeeping department. So, it’s quite clean and the students also play a vital role in making the campus clean as there are dustbins placed over several places. Students cannot throw the garbage here and there, and if someone does this, the faculty takes a step and takes care for the college cleanliness. If compared to other colleges, I find it very green and clean which is a very good thing. We play volleyball in the hostel at night from 10.00 to 12.00 P.M. It’s a pretty good experience that the rooms are shared between two students. So, it’s really easy to settle in this hostel as it is different from other colleges that provides hostel including 4 to 5 students sharing a room. I don’t think it’s good, because we all have privacy, so our hostel is better than any other.

It is a small campus, because it has only one department which is Tourism and Travel Management. All the rooms are really spacious and can easily accommodate 100 students in each class. Because Tourism Industry is not made for various students. Therefore, the classrooms are quite spacious compared to the other classrooms. And the campus is really large and clean where we have outdoor and indoor playground facilities. We have games like chess table, tennis, and carom. In outdoors, we have a ground in which we can play volleyball, badminton, cricket, football, etc. We have our hostel really close to the academic block. So, it’s really easy for us to go to the classes in time, as it takes hardly two minutes to reach the classroom from our hostel.

It’s been a year in this college, and I must say it was my good choice. Because, what I expected got here only, as only two students are sharing a room, so I don’t have to share my privacy with more people. The course, we are studying is really good as most of the people don’t know about it. This college gives us a good opportunity to have placement in companies. The faculty members are really supportive, as they are always available. Even, if it’s some personal matter or professional we have events quite too often like every month. We have at least 10 to 11 events which keep us moving. I really want this college to have a greater number of students as they deserve it in the students’ point of view. It’s a really good college to do your masters and bachelors. So, if you are looking for a good college not only from tourism perspective but also for preparing other examination, you can opt for this institute. It’s really easy course and helpful to keep you updated about the world.
