Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences [VIMS], Kolkata West Bengal was established in the year 1963 as Private Educational Institute to provide higher education to build a career in the field of Medical and Paramedical. VIMS is approved by the reputed UGC, MCI, NBE, ICMR and NMC, and is affiliated with WBUHS, Kolkata.
Being affiliated with WBUHS, the Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences was set up in the year 1963. It has been accredited and recognised by MCI (Medical Council of India), NBE (National Board of Education), ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research), and NMC (National Medical Commission).

For admission to MD & MS programs offered by the institute the candidates have to follow the State Counseling process and get enrolled through the State Quota. Candidates have to follow the Central Counseling process for admission to the DNB. The applicants seeking to apply to the Paramedical Programs namely DMLT, DRD, DNEP, B. Sc. CCT, B. Sc. OTT, and BPT have to follow the Online Counseling process of State Medical Facility of West Bengal (SMFWB) and University Counseling process of WBUHS.
The candidates have to fill up the online entry forms available on the college website after which the institute will assist the candidate for the further admission procedure.

The state-of-art infrastructure provided by the institute includes a Medical Library with over 9000+ books and journals and more than 500 thesis papers for the students. The VIMS has its own set of journals that consists of articles from the institute’s staff and is provided to the students for better research. Several seminar halls namely Dayananda Hall, Atmasthananda Hall, Gahanananda Hall, and Virajananda Hall are present for the students with the latest audio-visual systems.
