Kanya Maha Vidyalaya Jalandhar

The first women's college in Punjab is the Kanya Maha Vidyalaya which was established in 1886 in Jalandhar. It is an Autonomous College, which is approved by UGC, accredited by NAAC, and affiliated with GNDU Amritsar. It aims at conserving values and cultural legacy by mixing tradition with modernity.

To maintain a balance between academics and co-curricular activities a Department of Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) has been set up for the students, where numerous cultural programs are organised regularly. An Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) is also present at the campus to promote start-ups and encourage young innovators.

KMV claims to be the first to offer NCC training for women in Jalandhar. It has a sub-unit of the Army wing with over 50+ girl cadets. National Service Scheme (NSS) has been set up by the college, to encourage students to take part in social activities like Tree Plantation Drives, Blood Donation Camps, etc.

Multiple International Collaborations are held by the college for students, like the Student Exchange Programs with Eotvos Lorand University, Hungary, and Lesley University, USA, and International Conferences on subjects like English Studies, Skill Development, Youth Concern & Challenges, Cross Culture Nuances, etc. This Global expansion has provided the students with opportunities to broaden their horizons, explore, and gain practical experience along with developing better insight into their topics of interest.

The Institution has a Research Development Center with separate Research Committees for Finance & Infrastructure, Collaboration & Community, Product Development, Monitoring & Commercialisation, and Legal & Ethical Matters.

Based on merit and first come first serve basis, the admissions are done at the Institution. The admission application form can be submitted through Offline and Online Modes.

Offline Method: The admission application form and prospectus have to be collected from the college. A hard copy of the form along with all the necessary documents must be submitted to the college.

Online Method: The online admission form can be received from the college’s official website. Along with the submission of the form, certain documents are also required to be uploaded, such as:

• A copy of Aadhar Card.
• Character Certificate by the head of the last attending School/ College.
• An Attested Photograph.
• Original certificate of the qualifying examination from the last attended Institution.
• Merit Certificate for sports and co-curricular activities (if any).

Eligibility: There are several distinct criteria over which the admission eligibility has been divided, like for:

Migrating Students from Punjab Board/ University:

• Submission of the following documents from the last attended Institute: Original Examination Certificate, Detailed Marks Sheet, and Migration Certificate.
• Payment of the University Migration Fee.  

Migrating Students from Other Universities/Boards:

• Eligibility Certificate from GNDU, Amritsar.
• Migration Certificate and Marks Sheet from the last attended Institution.

Foreign Students:

• Eligibility Certificate from GNDU and Equivalency Certificate from AIU, New Delhi.
• Must have a “Students Visa” before admission. No admission on “Visiting/ Tourist Visa”.

The institute offers distinct scholarships to all students, namely:

• For 1^st year Undergraduate Students: Provided based on the percentage scored in 10+2. Like for the students who scored >/= 95% are eligible to acquire a full freeship, and likewise, the students scoring between 90% - 94.9%, 80% - 85.9%,  and 86% - 89.9% get a certain amount of annual fee concessions.
• For 2^nd and final year UG / PG Students: A Merit-Based fee concession is given to the students ranked 1^st and 2^nd in the existing class.
• Special Cases: Fee concessions are given in cases of single mothers, orphans, partially disabled, sibling concessions, and single girl children.
• Sports Scholarship: Provides a Full Freeship (covering hostel, coaching, etc.) to the students admitted through a sports quota.
• Defense Personnel: Certain concession is provided to the Wards of Armed Personnel and a Full Freeship to the Wards of Martyr.
• Economically Weak Students: Considering the financial condition of the student, the Scholarship Committee sets up certain fee concessions to be allotted.

*Note: A specific period is declared by the University for the submission of the Scholarship forms, under which the students have to submit to avail of the benefits of the scholarships. Students are only eligible for one scholarship at a given time.
