Christ College B.Com Review By Jay Shah

This is the first time I am trying my hands at writing so please pardon me if my review is not up to the mark. The reason why people of Kutch and Saurashtra were or I should still are weak in English is because of the poor standard that prevails in education system in this region. While in school, the teacher used to talk to us in Gujarati while I was studying one of the top schools of Saurashtra. All these changed as soon as the Christ College started in Rajkot. Christ College which started in 1998 had made students confident and you will find people in this region who can speak English fluently. Christ College deserves a lot more than it actually has. My parents gave me an option to go and study in Mumbai but I chose Christ and so do many of my friends. Since it is the most reputed college of the area student from nearby cities like Bhavnagar, Porbandar, and Morbi among others come and study here. The college is Saurashtra’s best and there’s no hesitation in me saying that.

The faculty in pursuit has been roped in from beyond the borders and knows that the schooling system in the area lacks infrastructure that leads them to the college. The college not just has the finest teacher but in absolute terms has the best environment as English was the way and we were only supposed to talk in English with our teachers. The college is affiliated to Saurashtra University and needless to say that it is Christ College who has honors at the University’s top scorer boards. From the inception this has been the trend and as far as I reckon it is going to stay because second best to this college is Saurashtra University is too far in terms of academics.

The best from other Universities have been asked to settle here as Christ College Rajkot is the first English medium graduation college in this belt. To take things forward the best set of teachers are required and college has done well to make sure that we have nothing but the best. The teaching style and the emphasis on English was the core but the faculty was handy as they knew they had time in hand. They took all the time in this world and by the time we left the college we were ready to confront in English. Faculty played a major role not just in terms of academics but also in overall development of students.

The college doesn't have placement opportunities for UG courses but for post-graduation courses some corporate houses have started coming to the campus. Not many but at least some lucky students have got the placement and the numbers are on a surge with each passing year.

Well this is the first time that one may hear that the college has a hostel but only a girls hostel. The region is still backward and girls hardly go out for studies. Christ has somehow influenced some people to send their daughters here and therefore the college has built a girls hostel inside the campus. Haven’t seen the rooms so won’t comment on that but the college hostel looks alright and the rooms are given on twin sharing basis. The hostel also has a mess area and that is why some girls who used to stay in the hostel avoid having food outside after evening. The way they used to tease us that today our mess menu is so & so was heartening as the college has taken care of this aspect whole heartedly.

We were endowed with almost all the facilities that I ever imagined. The college is not so old and is renovated every while. The building is well maintained and has the infrastructure that makes learning a fun. There were ventilated and spacious classrooms. The college has a vast area maybe not as wide as other Universities of Rajkot but still evenly poised. The college has many buildings as Commerce and Arts section classes are held in same building while Science has a building dedicated to them. The college campus has a canteen and there are also many hangout spots near to the college making the location of the college one of the best. The college has a sports ground and just a mile away from it is the international stadium as well.

Every day it was a new learning at the college campus. I know whether I should say this or not but I was a rookie before I joined this college and by the time I passed out I was a confident person. The life at campus spent well as the academics part was not that tough and we had enough time to take part in the events that were a regular part of the college. From Janmashtami to annual events we had nearly 10 events and I participated in most of them all 3 years. We didn’t have diversity among the batch mates as all students were from Kathiawad. Once this changes the college will be the best not just in Saurashtra but in Gujarat as well.
