Shri HK Arts College B.A Review By Nishaben Vasawa

HK Arts College is a dedicated arts college in Ahmedabad. The college is located at a good location and offers graduation and post-graduation courses in arts. The college atmosphere is great and so are the students. The college is not just the oldest in Ahmedabad but I reckon in India as well. The old history of the college is been talked about every week and the management has done their bit in promoting their college by word of mouth publicity. God forbid them for not knowing that as a student of Arts HK is our first choice. HK has a huge campus and all the facilities that technical or for that matter management students enjoy.

The college is great when it comes to academic. No Arts college in India will be as strict as HK. The margin of error is not there in the college as the attendance is strict. The college has the same school kind of set up where teachers come to take lectures then we have a 10 minutes break and then the next lecture. The college is affiliated with Gujarat University and our college name is always found on the toppers list. Many other colleges claim the same but one can go to the University office and check as no one comes close to HK in terms of education.

Some of our teachers are teaching in the college since 3 decades and pardon me if I say that are going to retire soon. Arts is one of the creative courses and this is what our faculties made us realize. While in school we opted for Arts as our numbers didn’t let us join Science or commerce but arts has its own value and all this was made realized to us by our faculty. Our professors were strict but cool at the same time and gave us enough breaks during the cultural events. The number of faculty members including all the courses was nearly 30.

We didn’t have the placements from the college but college name will land you a job for sure.

The college doesn’t have a hostel of its own but there’s a women’s hostel at the Ashram road.

The college is huge and the main building is of 4 floors. The college building is old and the gate has many advertising stickers all over it. The ground floor has the staff room and reception while the other 3 floors are where classes are commenced. The college has washrooms on each floor and are clean. The parking space is enormous and the connectivity from the college is great. There are many trees inside the campus and a lawn where we used to play and let our chatterbox do the talking. The canteen is on the top floor that served tea and snacks. The college has lost its charm in the last decade or so but study wise the college is still the best.

I thought we will excel in various other things but coming here and realizing that arts also require a lot of studies was surprising. The college has events on almost all the festivals and many prominent personalities are guests of honors at the college. At the inter-college fest, HK has won maximum events during my time and this is the only time that people take note of our college. From the oldest to the one that people enter only if they are left with no options is sad to see but it’s for real. I had fun being a part of this college and you too will have the same.
