Oakbrook Business School MBA Review By Rojo Joseph

I would not like to beat around the bust as I know the importance of the degree that I hold and the success that I have today because of Oakbrook Business School. Just like every other B.Com or commerce student, I decided to spend a year to prepare for entrance exams. It was during this time that I realized that how far I am in terms of knowledge by doing just a simple B.Com. I knew I can’t make it to big business school and even my parents can’t afford the donation fees that it requires to get admission there. Therefore, I myself short-listed few colleges that have good placement records and the fees is also something that my parents can afford. There were just a few and OBS was one of them. They accept various entrance exams scores but my decent CMAT score helped me get in the college. One thing that I can say is that when I look back now, I know the mistakes that our education system has and also the mismatch between graduation and post-graduation. If I had more words to write I would have shared it all but talking about OBS it is one of the most underrated institute I would say.

If I may presume that academic wise an MBA student view on academic is based on how good the college is with its flagship course. The college is a purely PG college offering specialization in the common streams. Choice of courses is there at the OBS and some advanced individual subjects are also there. A lot of lectures in the college were conducted by industry folks and their presence itself was so motivating that it made the toughest of courses look simple.

The faculty was stalwart if I could say that. Our professors guided us in each research project. The first year was full of theory and the second year exactly opposite that. Our learning was given wings and we could show all that we learned during the first year through presentation and slides. Our faculty members watched all of us keenly and worked on each individual to make sure they are ready before the final semester. On requesting the professors were always available and that was enough for me as I made them anxious more than anyone else at the campus.

My dad is in bank and therefore I know the perks that are attached to it. As soon as I knew that there are many banks at the campus, I was sure that I will get picked by one for sure. The college is someone whom I would thank as they were the ones who trained us for the respective field; we want to be a part of. If you see prospectus of famous colleges, you will see unimaginable figures but it wasn’t the case with Oakbrook. The college is normal and so were the placement numbers. I am glad that I am with one of the best banks and my learning at college is put to test daily.

The institute has arranged a residential facility for all the students outside the college campus. Little far but still manageable. After watching the previous college hostel, I was not just amazed but surprised because if this is hostel than what was that? Lovely rooms, nice facilities and the cleanliness that we had at the hostel was so amazing. It was student’s duty to get your rooms cleaned timely and one out of 2 roommates one had to stay back by the time cleaning was done. The hostel also has a mess facility which was good. Yes, wasn’t homelike but still consumable for sure.

The lush green campus with so many trees and plants were so pleasing to the eyes. The college may not be that huge but is new and is built by inspiring from various other B-Schools as what all facilities should be present at a B-School. Thus, we had all such facilities that a B-School should have like a volume library, common rooms, seminar halls, modern classrooms, and equipped labs. All the facilities that the institute had were used and there was no facility that was untouched. Now just imagine a Gujarati doing business. Many people say that we have this and that but in actual it depends on how many of those you actually use. The basketball court, the lawn and everything about the college was so mesmerizing that I still find some time out to go and visit my college as many of my colleagues in the bank are from the same college.

All my patience was put to test as I never imagined that I won’t even have time to call my parents daily. Look MBA is demanding, and the college has left no stone unturned to make the course in a way that makes you work like a workhorse. The institute knows how demanding the outside world is and it is their responsibility to train the students from campus itself. The survival of the fittest has made it clear that if you are not groomed at the college level, you can’t survive in the corporate world. I would therefore thank my campus life that has made vulnerable to adapt in any situation.
