HL College of Commerce M.Com Review By Nilesh Sharma

HL is one of those colleges that provide specialization in M.Com (Accountancy). I was clear from the day one after my 10th exams that as a commerce student I will be a master of accountancy. I searched all the while and came across HL as the best college for post-graduation college for learning accountancy. My parents didn’t support my decision but got some backing from family and since I had my uncle there who also was in all praise for the college. The praise were all true as the college is stupendous and the course much different that of South Gujarat University. The admissions are mostly done on merit and my graduation marks helped me easily get the admission here. Let me tell you that merit list are different of Gujarat University and students coming from other Universities. The total intake for M.Com is 180 and all are skilled and ambitious at the same time.

I have seen many colleges and will say that HL is different. This is not because I have studied here but from my point of view the college first checked how ready are we and then we were taken care of accordingly. Coming to this college made me realize that there a lot of areas where I need to improve and it was HL that helped me with all of that. The specialization course is designed well and the course material was so vast that once passed out from this college, I could alone handle the accountancy of any large firm. I am actually doing that now as I am with a top-notch bank and at this age have been handled with a responsibility that requires ages. All the credit is henceforth to the college that taught us advanced level of accountancy.

The faculty members were masters of the respective subject and the kind of knowledge they had was unimaginable. All of them were so supportive and the extra classes for us were organized as and when required. Just one day notice and next day what we see is faculty entering the class before students even for extra classes. This level of dedication comes inherently and thereby the HR department of the college who has made sure that the professors who are in the college for decades now has still stayed on with the college. The number of faculty members were over 10 and given the content of the syllabus the number is humongous.

An internship worked well in our favor. Without naming the organization with which I did my internship looked after us as their own. I didn’t knew that they are the ones who will also pick us one day and that is why are running all guns behind us. Brilliant opportunity and that made us bag a nice package and most importantly getting out of our comfort zone to work under extreme pressure. Almost all of us had the placements by the end of it and we all are masters in real of accountancy.

For UG students the college has hostel facility outside the campus and for PG there’s no such facility. I was anyways staying with my Uncle so it didn’t even matter. Many outsiders rented a flat and stayed together. Ahmedabad is a vast city and finding flat is one of the easiest tasks.

The college may be some years old but there is a reason why this is the best college. The college is the best commerce college of Gujarat University and the management as made sure that they live up to the expectation. The digital classrooms and library made sure that we adapt to the changing methods. The seminar hall which boasted prominent personality often is a treat to watch. The lively campus has added an extra charm to the college. The college is serious about sports and why not the city has produced some of the finest cricketers. Even HL has produced many domestic players and Parthiv Patel himself has come to monitor the progress at the University level. Not just cricket ground but as all the indoor sports inside the sports complex at the campus. The campus is Wi-Fi and while on campus you can access that from any corner as there are multiple Wi-Fi connections since the campus is huge.

I was allowed to stay in the college even after college hours and that was great. Doing group studies in the library and in open lawns helped me a lot. The college has left a lasting influence on me and I would highly recommend this college if one wants to be proficient in accountancy. The events and cultural fest of the college was worth participating in. A loud cheer from all ends beckoned and was amazing being part of this lovely organization. The juniors were ambitious too and always walked up to us and that was as pleasing as there is no such thing called juniors-seniors. No ragging or misbehaved is tolerated and if something like that happens the management takes a note of it immediately. In all, if I can say one word for HL College then that is ‘Ultimate’.
