Vivekananda College B.A Review By Mousumi Mukherjee

Vivekananda College is an undergraduate college, established in 1950. It is one of the best A-Graded colleges and its Science stream ranks number one among other colleges in Kolkata. It is a UGC recognized college and is affiliated with CU. It is situated in Thakurpukur, very near to my house. The admission process of the college is very simple. The students just have to collect and fill-up the initial form and after the merit list is out, they can fill up the admission form if the merit list contains their name. There is no tension of any pressure from the first time Union of the college and the college Management is also very good.

I was always attracted towards the subject of English and caught the opportunity of studying English Honors in this college after completing my H.S exam. The English Honors course of this college under CU was total as per my expectation and I found the course very interesting. My classmates were also very cooperative. I would recommend this English Honors course under CU to students who are aspiring to get English teaching-related jobs in school or colleges. Or, one can also get different private or freelancing jobs after acquiring a great speaking and communicating power from this course in English.

As per my knowledge, all the Department's professors are very good and cooperative. But, for me, of course, our English Department professors are my favorite. There were six English faculties in my college then. They have many years of experience in teaching their subjects in the college and all the teachers possess Master's Degree in their respective subjects. Many teachers among them have also qualified NET, M.Phil, and Ph.D.

Our College is, honestly speaking, not very strong till now in the field of placement of the students. But, surely, I hope, it will soon, make itself strong in this field also. Though some companies like TCS and other private or MNC companies comes occasionally hire the students of the college after taking exams of the students. The students are willing to get the jobs to have to pass the exams after attaining them.

Our College does not possess any hostel facility till now but I hope that soon our college will think about providing this facility to students. The security of our college is good. The students are allowed to enter the college after checking their college Id proof. But during lunchtime students are free to enter and exit out of the college gate without viewing their Id card. The college canteen is also good and serves good quality food to students and teachers.

The overall area of the college campus is big. The buildings of the Science, arts, and commerce streams are separate. There is a large playground in the college and annual sports happen every year in the college. The college possesses a beautiful garden, many flowers, and trees. In some buildings of the college, the master degree programs of IGNOU and Vidyasagar University also happened then during my time. There is a canteen, union room, common room, teacher's staff rooms, Principal's room, office room and many classrooms in the college. The college also possesses a library room, computer room, and lab rooms. The college campus is neat and clean everywhere and decent. The overall environment of the college is very much appealing.

The overall campus life in my college is spent very well. There were also many opportunities to participate in many fun-filled programs, fests, cultural programs, and activities other than educational programs. I used to actively participate in those programs. Besides all these, I also used to participate actively in seminars, workshops, and many educational programs. And all the programs were very much inspiring for me. One can learn many new things from these programs.
