St. Xavier’s Technical Institute is an autonomous college. Autonomous means they have their own unique syllabus and form their university. This kind of college is beneficial for students because we get to learn more in detail about our subjects and at our own pace. The exams are conducted in-house and papers are also investigated by the college teachers unlike universities exams. I got admission through merit list in the online admission process. The college management is up to the mark with very few flaws. The office staff is cooperative which a rare scenario in most of the colleges.

I joined EXTC i.e. Electronics and Telecommunication course. It’s the same old reason why I joined this course - because people said, “There’s scope in EXTC”. Anyways, once I was into this college, the new subjects slowly got familiarised and I got used to the new environment. I got a deep knowledge of the subjects which were taught in semester pattern from basic to the advance levels.

I can never ever forget the faculty of my college. I’ve had the best lecturers and professors who taught us subjects with great dedication and patience. Our teachers taught us until the subjects were fitted into our heads. We had lecturers having a B.E. degree and a few professors having M.E., M.Tech and Ph.D. One of our beloved professors was pursuing PhD in mobile phone and the harmful electromagnetic waves that are emitted from the device. I was in awe of his research work and he was very friendly to share some insights from his studies. Our lab sessions were highly interactive and the faculty imparted a sound practical knowledge to us. When we were taken to Manali and Chandigarh, our faculty was really supportive throughout the 8-day tour.

St. Xavier’s Technical Institute does not have much companies coming in for placements. But the once who come have a good package to offer. Because of the quality of the education provided, students are well-trained for the world outside and bag an offer as soon as we pass out from the college.

There is no hostel facility in the college. But there are a few government hostels in Bandra which one can opt for. It is very feasible to travel from Mahim to Bandra by the local trains. Mahim station is at 10 minutes walking distance from our college. And it's an easy path as well. I remember walking with my friends and chit-chatting along the way till we reached the station.

This college has an old infrastructure but a unique bridge that connects the two colleges - degree and diploma. We used to sit at the staircase of the adjoining bridge in our free time. I’ve spent some memorable time there. We had big classrooms comprising of large wooden benches and desks. The ventilation was excellent with two doors and big windows. We never felt hot in the classrooms. We also had a massive playground where we played various sports and also had our annual fest there. I loved visiting the library as we could sit there and study for as long as we wanted during the college hours. The aroma of the old books always pulled me to the library and we also had a strict yet sweet librarian. What I loved the most about my college was the canteen. I can still recognise the taste of the Fried rice there. All our birthday parties were hosted there and that too in budget.

We had a lush green campus with only two college buildings - degree and diploma. The greenery around made me feel fresh as soon as I entered the college gate. Though the college is located beside the fish market, it did not bother us much. The college building had one girls common room and a boys common room where we could rest or play carom. I had performed in the college fest for the first time ever. Our teacher had pushed us to put up a dance performance and we happened to bag the first prize. I still have the medals and the certificates. This college is excellent when it comes to building ones overall personality, is what I think. Another thing I like about the campus is the green house. It’s an open canteen which has a green rooftop. We can order food and sit there for as long as we wanted. We also wrote assignments there.
