Birla Institute of Management Technology PGDM Review By Karan Sadh

I wanted to do MBA but BIMTECH offers only PGDM. PGDM has its own advantages as the curriculum is vast than any MBA and has more advantages over MBA. The institute offers 4 PGDM programs and I did PGDM specialization in retail management. Ours was a residential course and the green campus that had an awesome infrastructure never made me miss my home which was anyway just 10 miles from the college. The facilities at the campus were more pampering and were a home away from home for all of us. Many negative press about the college is published but in Greater Noida there’s no better B-School than Birla Institute of Management Technology. The college started ATAL Incubation Centre in 2019 and through that various programs and start-up projects or ideas were undertaken. The student had their say 100% and the management never ignored any ideas given by the students. Studies looked more fun than they were because the course was vast and divided in 6 semesters over a period of 22 months.

First time I came to know that most B-schools have trisemester systems. Coming from an engineering background where semesters were of 6 months, I got used to it and our first semester lasted just 2 and a half months effectively. The CAT score was the one that was considered and 80 percentile students were the ones who entered the college. May not be as smart as the ones that IIM has but were not much below them and all the students of the college were smart and were up for any role or projects that were assigned. For engineers as most of the students were from same background understanding financial terms and things was a bit tricky but the college helped us out and all the financial case studies that were given to us were solved with the help of faculty.

Pretty much the average as they were also more interested in giving us framework that helps them take some time off. The classes were sometimes ignored and all that was done was how students have solved their case studies. Completing such a vast portions 3-4 months’ time was definitely not on their agenda and just a one week off that we were given before the semester exams was perhaps not enough. They were helpful but completing the topics was not their priority.

Greater Noida being a business hub the placements are mostly not an issue with the institutes here. BIMTECH Noida Placements offers the highest packages among its peers and the top companies like Redington India, West Life Development, Reliance Trends, etc. were the ones that took Retail Management students. McDonalds which was in turmoil in this part of the country and its Indian counterpart Westlife Development took 30-35 students from our batch. The company has revived and even though we were placed amidst Covid-19 my first day of job was work from home. The placement rate was 80% as 10-15% couldn’t clear the exams and they missed out while some didn’t applied for the jobs. BIMTECH Average Package CTC offered was between Rs. 8-9 LPA and highest from retail management grabbed a job worth Rs. 18LPA. BIMTECH Placements were the best and at least they don’t mislead the upcoming students with exaggerated figures.

The hostel buildings are a km away from the campus and the hostel campus has 2 girls’ hostel buildings and 1 boy’s hostel building. The boys were accommodated on twin sharing while the girl’s hostel had the single sharing options as well. The dining hall for boys and girls was common which is rare, if you don’t mind. The rooms had TV, fridge, bean bag, beds and ACs. The room size was 10*12 and was perfect for 2 people staying together.

The college is not that vast and has 4 buildings in all. 2 wheeler parking is outside the campus while four wheeler parking is inside the campus. The college library is good and the entire building is centrally air-conditioned. The classrooms have one seat with bench for each student. The college building has separate lift for staff and students. Two buildings were the admin blocks where the classes were held. Rest other facilities were common like seminar halls which were 2 and an auditorium that was in S2 building. The campus has enough greenery and 2 gardens. The campus also has a gymnasium and a small indoor playing area. The other facilities include a cafeteria that serves some of the most delicious snacks and coffees. The snacks made me lazy at times because I ate them till I could stop breathing as they were so tasty. The computer lab is huge and the entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled.

The rules are strict like we can’t be late for the classes. The college finds way for keeping the students busy without reasons are some of the negatives from student’s perspective. However, there are not so serious that you take off this institute from your radar. The plethora of pluses makes it one of the most beautiful campuses in Greater Noida. All the activities that are done have female participation and the culture was such that there was no discrimination.
