Madura College B.Sc Review By Deepan Chakravarthy

The Madura College Madurai is serving education in Madurai for more than 100 years. This is the first educational institute for higher education in Madurai, towering as a titan for more than a century. Even now the NAAC committee has accredited with its 'A' grade for the college's performance. The Madura College is affiliated with 'Madurai Kamaraj University' a renowned institution in south India for research and other studies. Madura College admission process is quite easy when compared to other institutes in Madurai. To get enrolled in this college, the student needs to submit her/his 12th mark sheet and 2 passport size photos. The 'application form' issued by the college must be brought up for 100 INR. After filling that, the respective department will call you by letter or mail if you are eligible for the course you have applied for. The college management is kind and rectifying all the difficulties of the students if they feel any. All the students can easily approach the management for the change they wish in the academics.

I have completed B.Sc Microbiology in The Madura College. They provided me the course by Merit-based ranking, prior to +2 marks. There are no entrance exams for me as I am selected through a merit-based ranking system. The reason for me to join this course is, I love doing biology and life sciences as I m very much interested in research. This course gives a huge scope for research studies and still in its initial stage of development, I opted to contribute my part. All the staffs and even HOD are easily approachable for all queries regarding academics. The institution provided a wide chance to utilize labs and all freedom to carry our tiny researches in the lab. The course can be still more polished by the addition of some topics in the syllabus. This course alone cannot offer a job, but doing post-graduation in it can offer huge scope for earning.

There are total of 12 faculties for Microbiology including a lab assistant. There are totally of 162 faculties in our college. They may have an average experience of at least 10 years in teaching. Most of the staffs are Ph.D masters. Yes they do teach us the subject as well.

For science graduates, there may not be assured placement. But there is a placement cell for arts. I am not aware of the companies visit and the scale of pay as I belong to science stream.

Currently, there are no hostel facilities offered for students.

The college totally occupies 42 acres with its unique environment made of various tree varieties. There are more than 10 blocks including all the departments. The library named 'Harvey' is the largest in Madurai and the oldest library that is present on our college campus. There are many volunteered sessions of seminars by the successful alumni of our college. All the science stream departments are provided with perfect lab facilities. There are 3 auditoriums on our college campus for all gatherings. There are 4 playgrounds in our college, for which our college is renowned among the people of Madurai. Most of the important sports meet are held at our college campus. Thus, it stands still as a huge supporter of sports and sports persons. There is a separate Health center for Medical emergency for girls.

Most of my college life is spent in libraries which guides me till now. Then the sports gallery made me a perfect and enthusiastic sportsman. All my teachers are in touch till now as friends. There is NCC, NSS and scout is some of the human growth and societal aspects of our college. Many seminars are held to interact and also to guide the upcoming graduates with the experience of the successful alumni. There are grand celebrations and gatherings for the festivals like Diwali, Pongal and also many competitions were held in the field of Literature and sports.
