NITTE Meenakshi Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Mahendra Godara

I landed in Bangalore for PG and being a 2nd home of North Indian students, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology became an automatic choice as many of my friends have already passed out from here and all are settled at some good places. I should tell you that placements are not 100% and an internship of 2 months is mandatory. Students with low GPAs were not even allowed to appear for the placements as the college was generous in giving numbers still some students took that liberty and score less than the required numbers to be eligible for campus placements. I had the option between Ramaiah Institute of Technology, SJB Institute of Technology, and NMIT, and hands down it was NMIT because I have known students from here and know that the college is kind to you if you persist with it the way it wanted. NMIT College gained autonomy not that far back and one can call it the youngest in terms of being an autonomous University in Bangalore but in terms of study structure and the course content, I bet it is one of the most advanced universities, you will find in Bangalore.

Branches play a major role at NMIT and one should choose wisely. I hope I can make your work easy because I am a recent pass out and CS, E&C, and IS (Information Science) are the three branches of the University that stands out. The other branches from what I know hardly have any placements and have only hampered the reputation of the college. The college has a blend of mix and youth in the faculty. PGCET, GATE, or K-MAT entrance is the admission criteria at NMIT. The marks are showered even on average students and average students also end up getting a 7-8 GPA at NMIT. This is just about the CSE PG that I am talking about the rest branches may have different criteria or the scoring process.

A mix blend of experience and youth. Some faculty have decades of experience while some are adequately new. If the relation between you and the faculty is good then don’t worry about the grades at all. They are the ones who set the question papers and with the kind of marks I got, I am sure they are the ones who are checking the papers as well. The syllabus at NMIT is just a guideline and therefore the faculty don’t teach it like a bible. Most of the faculty advised us for self-study and if we have any questions we can ask them in the class. Every day the faculty would come and ask any questions. Don’t be shy and ask all that you want to. I did that and that helped me strengthen my relationship with the faculty.

For CSE students, IT companies had their questionnaire and the same set of questions that they ask everyone. We were trained well as the college knew what it takes to crack the placement code. Most of us were offered supporting roles and we had to work under the developing manager. Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology Placements ranged in between 6 to 8 lakhs and more than half the students had placements from the campus. The off-campus placement cell of the college helped the students who had backlogs or failed to get placements through campus.

The college provides hostel facilities for boys and girls. Both the hostels are outside the campus and the college provides a bus facility for the hostel students to come to the college and go back to the hostels. There are 5 boys and 2 girls’ hostel in the special campus which just had the hostel facility. During the first year we got rooms on twin sharing in the Souparnika hostel and in 2nd year we were relocated to 4 sharing rooms at the R Cube hostel that only had M.Tech students. R Cube is the smallest hostel with 72 rooms and is allotted only to M.Tech students. The hostel fees weren’t that high and the facilities included TV, water purifier, and Wi-Fi connections. The hostel campus also had separate gyms for boys and girls. There were also a basketball court and indoor badminton court. The mess is common for boys and girls and over 500 students can sit and have their meals at the same time, it was that big. Not just veg but non-veg food is also served at the mess.

Nitte Meenakshi College campus is big and there are some great facilities that I never thought a University campus can have. The air-conditioned conference rooms were beautiful and massive. The computer lab with over 1500 computers. The entire campus was Wi-Fi enabled with a speed of 200 MBPS. Separate gyms for boys and girls and also separate recreation room. The college boasts a lush green cricket ground and had as many as 20 sets of cricket gears. There was a huge cafeteria that served many North Indian dishes as the college has a huge number of North Indian students. The campus also has an open air theater and an ICICI Bank ATM inside the campus. The library is fully equipped and in addition to that, the college has a Higginbothams book store.

Life at Nitte Meenakshi Engineering College campus was like studying at home because of the large number of North Indian students present at the campus. This is from my knowledge is the only University in Bangalore where there are more North Indians than South Indian students. Not just the students but the faculty members too were North Indian. For them, the residential facility was made available at the campus. The campus is well-equipped and high-tech as, after the Covid strike, we stayed in the hostel and had our lectures online at the hostel with ease.
