Bholabhai Patel College of Computer Studies BCA Review By Navneet Mehta

BPCCS is located in Gandhinagar and is an institute that offers only BCA & PGDCA. The institute is one of the oldest and is managed by SVKM trust. The college used to offer many courses in the past but is now a dedicated college for BCA and PGDCA. The college aims to provide the best computer studies students who have the same knowledge as an engineer. The college is affiliated with KSV University. Most of the events that are organized are related to studies and one such event is AKSH. It’s an IT-FAIR that is organized every year during October and through that, all the latest technological inventions are being discussed and students are given projects to submit a report on such products. All the students had to present their projects in front of the guest faculty. Academic value never lost its touch even for a while at BPCCS. The format and the course keep changing every couple of years. This is to keep the students up-to-date with all the latest in the world of technology. Bholabhai Patel College of Computer Studies has encouraged the students like no one else amid keeping the chaos around them.

We had to check the website after every semester because the portions kept changing. Thus the old question notes and the old question papers are of no use at BPCCS. You have to study hard as 3 out of 6 semesters are purely theoretical while 3 had both practicals and theory. The practicals were done at labs and it was not that we had proper practical exams. The questions asked during the practicals and attendance at practicals was considered before the final marks were given. The college is demanding and it has the right to be as they invest their time and resources to make the students attain all the knowledge of the field.

The total number of faculty for BCA is 18. All of them are Ph.D. or M. Phil degree holders. All of them were quite experienced and brought all their experience into play while teaching us. The classes were more of an interactive session. Just going by the books was not their way and they kept everything in control by calling out student’s names randomly and asking them freaking things. We were all freaked out during the classes as this could be our turn to keep our heads still and confident.

Placement wise the college has placed 70-80% of students from each batch. However, there’s a vast difference between BCA placements and those who pursue PGDCA from BPCCS. Many students, therefore, denied the placements and tried their hands for getting admissions in the diploma course. Even I was one of them and the college don’t care that we did our graduation from that college they have the same merit process. Many of us took that chance and missed the placements and the admissions for PGDCA. The placements were about 4-6 lakhs on average and as a started then we realized that the placements that we got were rather terrific. It’s just that the average for PGDCA is 8-9 lakhs and investing a year more to almost double the package looked more lucrative than taking what we got.

BPCCS doesn’t have its own hostel. There’s a Youth hostel and Swami Narayan Gurukul Boys hostel near the college. They are just a mile away from the college and both the hostels are equipped with good facilities. The Swami Narayan Hostel has a lot of restrictions and only accepts students of a certain faith. If not hostels, then there a lot of paying guests and flats also available.

The college campus is small as the one main building that has 3 sides is all that makes the campus. There’s a garden or the events area before the college building where students meet, Republic and Independence Day parade, flag hoisting, and festival celebrations are done. That is also the playing area as we were allowed to put volleyball net and make it a playing area. The main building has 4 computer labs with over 50 computers in each. The library is huge and has over 30k books of various disciplines. GUJCOST has installed an E-Content library at the campus. The college is technically sound as it has an audio-visual room and a state-of-the-art conference room that is like a theater of 90s that has balcony, stall, and dress circle kind of seating. The infrastructure is modern from the inside but the building is old as the pure white building has turned into an off-white coloured building.

Students are mostly occupied with projects and research work. Preparing for presentations and getting ready for classes never let us in a free state of mind. The only time we were set free was during the college fest called Sangat. Every year the fest was celebrated for a week and over 20 competitions were held during the festive week. Some all-girls competition while somewhere only boys could participate while some where both boys and girls participated. Other than SANGAT, technical fests and fests related to education held twice or thrice a month. Life at BPCCS was hectic but enjoyable at the same time.
