Asian Business School PGDM Review By Ankit Tiwari

Asian Business School offers a PGDM program that requires a 60 percentile CAT score for admissions. The management of ABS is good and never interfered much as the system of the college was explained to us during the student week that is celebrated during the first couple of weeks of the 1st semester. From Monday to Saturday it was classes and classes as 7 am to 4 pm, we had to be at the classes or at the labs. Luckily the classes and labs are air-conditioned and also had comfortable seats that got us tangled in our chairs the entire day. The student’s welfare program is there to make sure that the overall development of the students is done. The course content was also good as what we have studied is helping us in our jobs and in PGDM it was more about the case studies than the course structure. The faculty were good but not all and the campus was a pocket-sized one. You will have everything in the pocket-sized college and the students of various backgrounds are see enrolling in ABS. ABS is not among the top tier colleges but is among the top colleges of tier 2 grades.

The course was good as 7 subjects in each semester and all of that are related to the management studies. No extra subjects and course was always on track and there were no extra classes as Sunday was completely off and all the guest lectures and all were also during the weekdays. The industrial program and the student's exchange program which was rather a fake thing did exist but for few of us. As a whole, the academics part of the college was good if not great.

I will first say about the ones who had nothing to do with students getting groomed but will come and read the PPT slides. We already had those in our laptops but they thought this is the way students should be taught and continued likewise in all the semesters. There were 12 faculty members in all and some of them took classes for more than 1 subject. This was strange because they didn’t know about either of them. The numbers of such faculty was few as the rest were fantabulous. They will get deep inside and make sure that all the students in the class are versed with the subject.

Banks and management students have a close connection and this is why even though the FMCG companies even decreased the intake criteria still students made banks their first choice. I did my internship at Dabur and when I saw Dabur’s banner at the campus I knew this is where I had to pitch for the placement. The banks that joined hands with the college include Yes Bank, Citi Bank, American Express, Standard Chartered, and HDFC Bank. From the FMCG group, Dabur and ITC were the ones. The ITC placed the students in their Kolkata unit while Dabur sent the students to their Nepal and Ahmedabad units. I was offered more as not many agreed for Nepal and as promised after spending a year in Nepal they called me back. Asian Business School average package of the placement was around 7 lakhs.

Asian Business School hostel was a 5-star one and was at a km away from the campus. It was a twin residential complex as one was reserved for boys and the other one for girls. The rooms were large and had balconies, kitchen, TV sets, and separate beds for both the students. The fees were high but it was worth it because there are not many accommodation facilities near the college and the hostel was rather the better option. The food though was not so good and 2-3 days in a week, we went out or ordered food at the rooms. The dining hall was common for both boys and girls. Smoking was prohibited at the residential complex but students still found a way to smoke inside the complex.

It was a 6-floor building complex and that’s it. All the classrooms and other rooms were air-conditioned. There were boys' and girls' washrooms on each floor along with water purifiers. There was a parking space for 20 cars and 3-4 college buses were parked. The building had a theater hall which was also the seminar hall as every now and then we had guest lectures from industry stalwart. The auditorium was fully air-conditioned and had a seating capacity of 400 people. The library was again small and CIT (Center for Information Technology) was inside that. CIT was nothing but a computer lab but they complicated it by naming it CIT. The recreation room had multiple indoor games that were used by us during the long lunch breaks. There was a multi-cuisine restaurant inside the campus. To keep the students interested in sports every year sports week called Athleema was organized and winners were rewarded handsomely.

Life at ABS was spent writing the notes or playing pool in the recreation room. The laptop couldn’t be kept far as we were notified with a mail 4-5 times in a day and we had to acknowledge that upfront. The annual cultural meet and annual sports meet was held in February and during the final year, we were felicitated by our juniors. The juniors and seniors shared a nice bond on the campus and the ragging was strictly banned inside the college and the residential area.
