Many may not be aware of the fact that Don Bosco Institute of Technology also offers M.M.S. It is affiliated with the University of Mumbai. MH CET and GD&PI are mandatory to procure admission in one of the most renowned Engineering colleges of Mumbai, i.e. DBIT College. I was fed up with engineering life and management studies looked like a better option. DBIT considers even 50 Percentile and my number only permitted me DBIT. The college is located in Kurla and the connectivity to the college is great. Since I was a management student there, I would be writing about my department and not much about engineering. For engineering students, the college is quite friendly and open for co-curricular activities. When it comes to MMS, the college all of a sudden becomes quite strict and sends us for an industrial visit or sends us for guest lectures which were of no use. MMS students of DBIT Kurla have been one of the best performers at the university level and this is why many companies that turn up for engineering have also started showing interest in MMS students of the college as well.

Mumbai University has designed their MMS course so beautifully that even though it’s tiring, student’s interest is well maintained. Regular industrial visits and projects. Case studies which consist of a large chunk of MMS studies made sure that we have enough inputs developed in us to react in certain situations. This is what management studies are all about. The new age study methods were implemented with over-the-top classrooms and data-based studies. The MMS was introduced at DBIT in 2010 and is now among their core academics. It’s not just about engineering but management studies and facilities are given equal weightage though most of the facilities are still commonly shared.

All are approachable and supportive. The faculty of engineering college is maybe more competent as many young professors were a part of MMS. Some of them passed MMS not so long back and were hired to give us more insight on the subjects and throw light on the projects that were based on statistics. Young professors also meant mingling was easier and one could ask them about any damn thing. Attendance is compulsory in MMS and any mishap in that means consequences and the other side of the faculty was seen then. Luckily I never faced any of such tantrums because I hardly missed any classes during my college life.

Banks that made the core group were the top choices of almost all the students. L&T, Dr. Reddy, and Cipla also took many students from our batch. Roles assigned were of senior analysts or project managers. In banks, the pay was certainly high but the roles were still demining. Students were allowed to appear in as many interviews as they want and many of has had dual offers at hand and choosing one was the toughest part of my MMS studies. I studied about both the companies that offered me jobs and after a lot of thought, I chose Dr. Reddys which is today on the verge of becoming India’s largest Pharma company.

The college doesn’t have its own hostel. The college has a lot of empty space and could consider having a hostel because engineering students were from all parts of the country. There are many small and big private men and women’s hostel in Kurla and that is where outsiders arranged their stay. Options are enough near the college but a hostel inside the campus is incomparable.

The classrooms were cleaned daily and every time, I entered the college, it looked like I am entering for the first time. The management studies block was smaller but was well equipped. The library was at the engineering block which had non academic and academic books. Labs are maintained and updated timely and were in stable condition till I was there. The auditorium was relatively small and therefore we were not forced for events because the seating problem was always witnessed. The college has a football ground and the college’s football team has won many intercollege championships. The canteen was the worst ever and I seriously doubt that college canteen actually serves the purpose or not. Luckily the college wasn’t far from many restaurants and malls. The college location was great as the connectivity was seamless to any corner of Mumbai from the college.

It was all about engineering students as we could hardly participate in the events. Our programs were also held beyond the college boundaries and even though we were seniors of undergraduate engineers but still we could be a subject of bullying. The exposure provided was unquestionable as we were free to choose internships from a long list of industries. We could have training sessions as per the types of industry we wanted. The campus in short gave us exposure and the right mindset to prepare for a better future. Life at DBIT was great but mostly for the engineering students.
