Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology M.Tech Review By Govind Kumar

Greater Noida is a hub and NIET is the only institute in Greater Noida that is recognized by NAAC, NIRF, and others. For placements, NIET College has started Pyramid Finishing School to train the students. Also, NIET doesn’t charge anything for training while most of the college’s charge 10-50k for training and that also doesn’t guarantee you placements. The technology at this institute is next level. The institute has training workshops for Mercedes, Microsoft, and IBM, etc. to train them for those organizations. Career guidance seminars are organized by the institute where they bring in motivational speakers and industry stalwarts. We had the liberty to talk to management directly about our queries. Nobody could take their position for granted was the clear message from the management. The pool of faculty members was best as there were core faculty and some junior faculty that was being prepared alongside. The institute developed an entrepreneurship cell where ideas are given wings and many students of the institute are today one of the top entrepreneurs in their field. NIET Greater Noida has become the first choice for the industry as they know the way students are groomed here.

The campus has pin-drop silence during the lecture hours. The academics were given the highest priority at NIET and the theory classes are from Monday to Thursday. Friday and Saturday used to the practical classes. Every month we used to have industrial visits as many IT companies have established their corporate offices in Gurgaon and Noida. We were free to choose the internship and TCS has designed a program for interns for which we were recommended by the institute. NIET has become a role model for other engineering colleges in Greater Noida as they were the first to build the technical infrastructure in Greater Noida.

All NIET faculty were highly qualified and had immense teaching experience. Some of them even served as professors at IITs as well. The faculty also used to guide for the placement scenario and one thing that they made sure was that 70% attendance and marks are compulsory to be eligible for the placements. If you had any innovative ideas, you can talk them out to the professors and they will support you to take it further to the management. The faculty never just concentrated on the syllabus but gave us deep learning of the subjects that they knew will help us in the future.

The top students get the first priority and all the toppers are sitting comfortably in TCS Chennai and then in TCS and Wipro Bangalore. So as per the jobs, you can figure out their marks that they would have scored. The weak students were not entirely left out as many BPOs have set up their offices in Greater Noida and they also offer good packages but obviously an M. Tech student working in a BPO won’t be his/her first choice. Thus NIET placement drive was one of the best that I saw and I am working at TCS Chennai where I was placed before the lockdown so yet to see my office as I have served it just from home thus far.

Engineering colleges have 75% male and 25% female students and the institute has therefore built 3 boys and 1 girl’s hostel inside the campus. NIET hostel rooms choice surprised me as there were 2, 3, and 4 seaters rooms, and three and 4 seater rooms didn’t even have the attached washrooms. Luckily one seat got vacant in the twin sharing room and I stayed at the hostel for all 4 semesters. For PG 2nd year students single rooms are also there at Plot 19 hostel but that has a merit list and also the recommendation list. The students who have taken tough projects are usually given those rooms as they have the excuse of needing privacy. The food was also good as students were from North only so they also fed us North Indian food only.

NIET campus infrastructure is awesome as there are probably 8-10 buildings. The IT building was the most advanced one as it had the computer lab, a student’s corner, a small canteen, and a playing room. There is one building that has 2 gyms as the 1st-floor gym is for girls and the second floor is for boys. For the sports enthusiast, the ground is also there and football and cricket can be played on them. There was a large canteen which was mostly quite busy in the evenings. The main building has faculty rooms and the Principal room and reception area. The college location is also a top one and the institute is quite close to Knowledge Park II Metro Station.

The kind of workshops that I saw at the campus were quite encouraging. It may be common for the people studying in the engineering colleges of South but I have attended 2 colleges and I have visited over 50 during my college career but NIET was the only one where I saw industrial workshops inside the campus. The students mostly were occupied within themselves and I didn’t make many great friends as such. The institute also has a UPSC classes training center at the college and has produced some IAS and IPS officers as well. The students were mostly of the upper-class community and 80% of them were from Delhi-NCR.
