Situated at the heart of Bangalore, the Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College is One the most reputed and oldest College for women. And still a much underrated one I believe. The college is affiliated to the Bangalore University. It is UGC approved and an “A” graded by the NAAC. Bishop Cotton Christian College is located on the Mission Road which is one of the busiest and liveliest areas of Bangalore. Well connected to almost all parts of Bangalore, the College boasts a breathtaking infrastructure and an excellent academic record. One of the major highlights is the tie-up with the Concordia University. Becoming a Cottonian is like diving into a sea of opportunities.

I am pursuing my graduation from Bishop Cotton College with my majors being biotechnology, zoology and chemistry. There are plenty other subject combinations available. The College follows a semester system and therefore there are a total of 6 semesters in the whole 3 year course. The college has maintained its position and excellence since 1985 and the reason for that is that it takes its academics really serious. We are grilled in the classes that mostly start at 9 and go on till 4 with special emphasis on the practical. The regular practical ensure that you are ready to step into research field if that’s what your interest is. Presentations, seminars and workshops are a part of our everyday life. Also, with the tie-up in play, if your merit is good enough across the 4 semesters, the College presents you an opportunity to complete the remaining of 2 semesters from the Concordia University and boast a foreign graduation degree. If you are someone looking for more than boring lectures, Bishop Cotton Women's College is the right place for you.

The professors in our department were really good and experts in their respective subjects. The way you are taught plays a major role in carving your interest in the subject and I would totally give that credit to my professors. Almost all the teachers make sure that the classes are more of an interactive discussion session rather than one boring lecture. The faculty emphasises equally on the practical knowledge and the applications of what we are taught. And I would love to mention here that my professors are one of the very few who don’t stop importing knowledge outside the college campus. I would call up my teachers at 10 in the night and they would gladly clarify and doubts I had. What more can you really ask for?

Bishop Cotton is one of the best when it comes to placements and is ranked in the top ten colleges preferred for hiring and recruitment. Placements was one the major concerns I had when I shortlisted this college for admission but my doubts were cleared by the placement cell of Bishop Cotton as well The Doon School itself. The college is visited by companies like Cognizant, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, HP, Biocon, Thomson Reuters among many others. I personally know many seniors who were successfully recruited by some top notch companies. Also, if you are amongst the very few who get into Concordia, your placement chances will undoubtedly increase manifold. And your years in college totally prepare you to crack the placements.

The college hostel is probably the only part I don’t like about my college and most Cottonians will agree. The college hostel is situated 4kms outside the college campus. And since it is in the main city the irritant traffic can be an everyday issue while getting to the college in time. This was the reason why I opted for a private hostel near the college because I was not ready to travel 4 kms everyday to and fro. The facilities at the college hostel are quite fine if you wish to stay there. But there are a plenty of hostels and PGs near the college where you can get a room at affordable prices.

The infrastructure is one my favourite things about the college. The campus is breathtakingly beautiful. It is well maintained and lush green. There are labs for every subject which are well equipped and you can see the administration has really spent on them. There is a big library which will be absolute heaven for you if you are a booklover. There is a canteen and I must say the food is delicious. There are large grounds, basketball court, and sports room for sports enthusiasts. There is also a bank and an ATM inside the campus. The college also has NCC and Red Cross. I am a part of the Red Cross society. The whole campus has a beautiful flora. Under the huge trees, in the cool breeze is the best place to spend your breaks.

An amalgamation of cultures is what you can call the BCWCC campus. Students come from all parts of the country with majority being from Karnataka. And girls college is not at all boring if you are someone who thinks that just like me. I was amazed by the amount of fun we had every day. Once you gel well with the crowd, life here will be heaven. I spent most of my first year learning Kannada from my local friends. The plethora of activities and events will keep you refresher thought the year. The annual fear Disha is something to die for. Dress up, show up and have the time of your life!
