Manipal Institute of Communication M.A Review By Poorva Narang

Overall Manipal College of Communication is good if you are looking for a good private college to pursue your education. Definitely, fees is pretty high but it is way better than any private university you can imagine. The master's program is associated with Deakins University, Australia and before the pandemic, many students have studied abroad as well. The admission process is pretty simple as it is a private university, you just need to sit for an interview. Recently Manipal University has been ranked number 1 in terms of private universities.

I am currently pursuing MA in Media and Communication. I had my specialization in communication in my graduation and I had a particular interest in advertising so I joined this course. Subjects are what I had expected and specializations are ok according to me. No matter how your college is, at last, it all depends on you how much you gain out of your institution. You need to work hard and with the right amount of hard work and luck, you'll succeed.

The first semester was pretty good and the faculty is pretty good especially media writing, they are very understanding and are pretty considerate of student's mental health. Many professors hold Ph.D. in communication background and they are well versed with industry as well. Advertising by Shruti Shetty is really good and maximum students take up this subject because of her only. The second semester we were called on campus and it was a hell of an experience, personally, it was difficult for me as it was my first time away from home but you learn a lot better on campus than online. Also, whenever we asked professors to extend the deadline for an assignment, they never said no and always considered our request.

I am still studying but I have heard that placements are good. Social Beat comes for recruitment for advertising. Companies Reuters, Uber, Goldman Edelman and adfactors, Wizcraft. It's pretty good but your previous experience matters too! If companies are good, then packages are expected to good too! Preparation is vital if you want to get selected, opportunities are not limited!

Hostels are pretty good, students can opt for ac as well if they wish to. It's less expensive than living outside, around 1.2L is fees of hostel including food. I wish to switch to the hostel. Food is okayish, you have veg and non-veg both, and it's bearable. I wish you can block your card for the days you're not eating. For anyone who wants to try hostel food needs to pay 60/- per plate and can eat unlimited. There are various messes where students go, Sindhi mess is awesome!

The infrastructure of Manipal College of Communication is good, but it never gives me a campus vibe. But the University campus of MIT does. The library is awesome, you have poetry, newspapers, dissertation, and whatnot. We also have a Mac lab where all systems are of apple. All the labs are air-conditioned and we freeze sometimes. We also have a small canteen and the food is pretty nice, especially paneer bhurji and sheizwan egg fried rice, and uncle is very friendly too.

Campus life is okayish this may be due to pandemic, Manipal College of Communication organizes article 19 every year and we also have Kala Manch, where students get a nice exposure for their extracurricular, one of my friends told me she participated internationally as well and won basically they represented India. We also had Namma Angadi where students organized an event, put up stalls, and celebrate it like a small festival. This time it was online. Because of the pandemic, we missed a lot. Food is a problem if you are from the north but it's manageable, just be prepared to cook if you are not a south Indian food lover.
