Shyam Lal College B.Com Review By Akshat Parashar

So, my overall experience in Shyam Lal College is kind of average. Shyam Lal is an off campus college, so it is quite obvious that it is not as good as other DU colleges. I feel that the crowd of the college is not that good; you won’t meet many intellectual and career focused people. The area of the college is very bad; there you won’t get that DU environment because the college is situated at a separate place. I chose this college just because of the DU tag and I feel that those students who want to go for further studies after graduation can choose this college because then the college doesn’t matter that much and also, students who are studying for competitive exams can choose this because Shyam Lal doesn’t have attendance issues.

Shyam Lal College almost provides every undergraduate course like B.Com, BA, B.Sc, etc. and for the science programs the college also has specific labs. Entry requirement is not that tough unless you’re targeting commerce courses. Generally, cutoff for the commerce courses goes pretty high like you should have minimum 650/800 but for B.Sc and BA courses, the cutoff is average.

I personally feel that the teachers are the same as other colleges however, teachers are not that focused on teaching. Many times classes get cancelled. Some of the teachers are so good and their teaching style too, but some of them are below average in teaching.

Yes, Shyam Lal College has a Placement Cell but students cannot rely on the Placement Cell only because it won’t provide the jobs which students expect in their minds. Placement Cell doesn’t come up with reputed companies and job profiles. Also, there are very limited companies where many students give interviews for jobs, so the competition is pretty high.

No, Shyam Lal College does not provide hostel facility.

Infrastructure of Shyam Lal College is actually nice as they have lots of greenery in the campus and it also stays clean. The campus is not that big but it’s pretty good. But yes, washrooms and water coolers are very bad and unhygienic. The canteen also does not have great food.

Shyam Lal College is obviously an average college; the campus is small but good looking and clean. The crowd of the college is the biggest problem as the crowd is not good. Societies and clubs of the college are good; dramatics society and departmental society students get great opportunities.
